You might be right. I hope you are in fact, but I never - ever - underestimate the enemy. Didn't work at Pearl Harbor, hasn't worked against terrorists.

You have to think that Rove has seen the poll numbers for some time and all the myriad trouble the party is in and is looking for a way to wiggle out of it.

I don't disagree with you necessarily as you have good thoughts and it probably is just unhinged arrogance in the final days of a very corrupt and incompetent administration.

But let's keep an eye out for Republicans who might claim the helm of reform, OK?

Well, I don't agree with you. I honestly think this administration is so greed-driven and feels itself so unaccountable that they figured they could ram through a deal that was good for their personal pocketbooks. I mean, look at all the info coming out now that they really never intended to tell anyone about this at all. I think at this point to impute organized motivations to the Republicans is to overrate them and their cunning; they truly look like they are flailing and panicking. It's only disappointing how little the Democrats are taking advantage. But no, the GOP has been so totally chaotic in recent days, I don't think they could think in such coordination even if they wanted to.
