We Believe Cleveland: Religious Blowback

Russell hits the nail on the head:

When one religion pushes and pushes and pushes, eventually people of faith who disagree push back.

This whole piece at Openers is worth the read…and the listen to the accompanying audio.

I’ve been asking for this for some time and I hope to see candidates utilize the momentum and eneryg begun by these groups.

Plunderchat:

If you’d read the mission statement of “We Believe,” it is NOT for the purpose of candidate support.

As Americans we believe that…

1. Our governments exist for the common good of a populace that is rich with religious and cultural diversity.
2. Every citizen has a responsibility to participate in the political process of democracy.
3. Every citizen has the right to make political decisions freely, without coercion or threat from any individual, group, or institution.

I think candidates (especially brother Strickland) should point out the failures of the so called religious right to address the needs of those most needing to be addressed. So when I say I want to see candidates speak out, I don’t necessarily mean this group and candidates should comingle.

FYI, I talked to Frances Strickland about religion and politics after last night’s events. Her comments are here
