Happy Birthday, America

Americans singing the National Anthem in Kaiserslautern, Germany before last summer’s World Cup game against Italy. If this doesn’t give you goosebumps, I think you might be dead.

BTW, if you ever want to experience this kind of politics-free patriotism, come to a US-Mexico game at Crew Stadium with me (and the attendant pub crawls before and after). Another little patriotic World Cup highlight after the jump.

Happy 4th everybody. Stay safe.

Felt that way at the Tour de France also. Every country’s fans waving their flags, cheering their compatriots in the Tour. Great experience.

Unfortunately, I’ve never been to a World Cup game, but I’ve been to plenty of World Cup Qualifiers, and it gives you chills every time.

In the 2nd clip, I was actually in that tent outside Crew Stadium with a couple thousand of my closest friends in the sweltering heat.

OK, now I’m really out for the day - I just finished downloading the US-Paraguay match from Copa America that I’ve successfully avoided seeing the score of for 2 days now. I’m going to watch it now, and then go to my inlaws for a BBQ.
