Another Republican Senator Arrested in Bathroom

Last month it was Senator David Vitter of Louisiana.

Yesterday it was Idaho Senator Larry Craig.

Here is Craig’s statement:

At the time of this incident, I complained to the police that they were misconstruing my actions. I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct.

I should have had the advice of counsel in resolving this matter. In hindsight, I should not have pled guilty. I was trying to handle this matter myself quickly and expeditiously.

Plunderchat:

utterly enlightening…

The real story, and one I haven’t seen anywhere, is how can we have had a US Senator arrested for anything 2.5 months ago and we’re just NOW hearing about it?

I’m not sure David Vitter was arrested in a bathroom but it’s still a good headline.

I love the “I pled guilty because it was just faster and easier” explanation. Much more direct than blaming it on alcohol or scary black dudes!

Paul - the part I love is that he had TWO MONTHS between being arrested and pleading guilty, but he only realizes now, after the story comes out in Roll Call, that he should have gotten a lawyer. Ya think? And we have this guy voting on going to war and stuff :)

True dat, Dirtgirl. It was Bob Allen, a Florida State Rep, who was arrested in a bathroom.

His excuse:

Listen. A public park. I got my name on the damn building. I’m not gonna do that. You know, maybe I said it in the wrong order, but this was a pretty stocky black guy, and there were a lot of other black guys around in the park, and, you know…

Does anyone else remember when the conventional wisdom said that Republicans had money scandals and Democrats had sex scandals?? When did this change? With the rise of Crazy Christian conservatives, maybe?

In case you didn’t know:

“Tapping of the foot is pretty standard for men who cruise in toilets,” said Keith Griffith, owner of Cruisingforsex.com, a Web site on which visitors post locations popular with men looking for anonymous sex.
