Question- Would it not be smarter to work on lowering insurance and health care costs?

SCHIP is just throwing more money at a problem and not trying to fix the cause.

It is likely that Kucinich is existentially thinking on a higher intellectual level than most. Voting for the SCHIP bill only sets the universal health care issue back even further. Sending an already compromised 35 billion dollars (negotiated down from 50 billion by republicans) into 'exclusive' health care for U.S. children only helps ensure a pendulum swing benefiting the republican health care agendas for the next several years. This is typical of the democratic way, give money to a bunch of people and hope everything turns out fine. The fact remains that we are still continuing to neglect the existence of some of our hardest working citizens, our immigrants. I’m not trying to persuade anyone away from sending in letters to their congressman for causes they believe in, but I am encouraging people to look not just at both sides of the coin, but ALL sides of it. I do believe that we need to think bigger if we ever want anything to change. Denying aid to these people might actually get people fired up about basic human rights, and it might just get people involved in their American political issues.

Dennis,
You're a straight shooter and I really admire that but I think you didn't reason this one through. You should have voted for the SCHIP as a "good first step" and continued to fight for 676. At least we could get some kids on board now that weren't covered already. One step at a time.

I like Dennis. I really do.

And I often admire his all-or-nothing approach on important issues like the war.

But at the end of the day, he IS a politician. A long-time, professional politician.

And politicians- especially legislators- need to compromise.

Especially on something as important as this.

Let's just hope Dennis will step up and vote to override our child-hating president's promised veto of this bill.
