CANTON The city has a new mayor.

With all of the city’s 71 precincts counted, challenger William J. Healy II has an unofficial lead of nearly 1,000 votes.

As of 10:45 p.m., the unofficial vote totals are 8,212 for Healy and 7,178 for Mayor Janet Weir Creighton. Only a few of the 364 precincts in Stark County need to be counted.

If they hold true, Healy unseats Creighton after one term.

Creighton, in a speech to supporters, conceded that she had lost the race to Healy. She declined to answer a reporter’s questions.

Wowzers. From what I was hearing, the GOP pulled out all the stops (and completely out of the surrendered Columbus) in order to retain this rare GOP Mayoral hold. They were unable to do it. Seriously a good sign for the good guys. Horrible sign for the state of the “GOP machine”.

Wow.

(ht Jerid via IM…he’s gonna have lots more. Kid ain’t sleepin’ a bit!)
