Mr. Mayor… Tear Down This Mall (And Build Me A Damn Casino!)

The dispatch’s Daily Briefing has pointed out a great option for the centrally-located but almost-dead City Center Mall: A CASINO!

But Mayor Mike Coleman killed the option before it even got out of the idea phase.

Supposedly, Mayor Mike Coleman was in Detroit today for a meeting with the leaders of other cities to discuss the foreclosure crisis. The meeting took place at the newly-opened MGM Grand Detroit.

The Casino/Hotel, which has taken in $54.9 million since its opening on Oct. 3, “features 18 floors of hotel rooms — the bathrooms have TVs — and 100,000 square feet of slots, black-jack tables and poker rooms.

When asked about his visit, “Coleman said he didn’t visit the casino and remains opposed to having them in Columbus.”

His comments leave me wondering: would Bill Todd have pushed for a casino?

Finally, something we can agree on. Bring on the table games!

Something needs to be put there besides the City Center mall. I was there a couple weeks ago during the middle of the day…and the place was absolutely empty. I like the idea of putting a casino in place of the mall.

I was hoping for an Ikea but I’d settle for a casino.
