Valentine’s Day Massacre in Reverse?
Two years ago yesterday Ohio got it’s famous Valentine’s Day Massacre. Then a rising political star with a gift for rousing stump speeches and ability to draw in both Democrats, Independents, and yes even some Republicans was snuffed out in favor of the establishment son. The party favorite.
Yesterday we heard a shot. A shot from an established party figure. This time, however, his shot rang out in support of the rising political star and not the party’s establishment favorite. John Lewis stood up and was counted. He felt the movement and it moved him personally to change. Last October he said:
“I have looked at all the candidates, and I believe that Hillary Clinton is the best prepared to lead this country at a time when we are in desperate need of strong leadership,” Rep. Lewis said. “She will restore a greater sense of community in America, and reclaim our standing in the world.”
“In recent days, there is a sense of movement and a sense of spirit,” said Mr. Lewis, a Georgia Democrat who endorsed Mrs. Clinton last fall. “Something is happening in America, and people are prepared and ready to make that great leap.”
There is great speculation whether or not this indeed is an official endorsement. One thing is certain and that is that Hillary & Co. are burning up political capital like mad trying to keep this one from happening. Lewis’ defection would carry a great deal of cover for many others to follow suit. This one could get ugly boys and girls…
