@2: I won't deny it's an issue, nor will I deny that within some demographics it has and will have an impact. I guess what I'm arguing is that in the end it really changes nothing. Hillary will leverage race to win Pennsylvania (lower educated and old white people) pretty big. That still won't matter. She'll still turn around and lose enough that it won't make a big difference in the delegate count. Assuming we still select a nominee based on delegate counts. lol.

The most surprising thing to me is that there are 23% of Democrats who think he's Muslim. Maybe they think Obama's pastor is a cleric? Boggles the mind. Education is indeed a good thing. It still shows that there is a big swatch of American people who can be lied to and it will stick. We have work to do.

This stuff may, in fact, help Obama by giving him a great opportunity (that he has started) to talk about race. It also allows him to talk about being Christian. It's funny now that the standard is "yeah, but what KIND of Christian". Some Christians take offense to this. Hell, even <a href="http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/14948.html" rel="nofollow">Mike Huckabee defended Obama AND Wright</a>!

The polls show, your anecdotal evidence aside, that this has not had the crushing effect that was intended and his handling of it has been superb.

Despite what Hillary supporters and wingnuts like the blogger who will now be known as Tom "<a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=tom%20blumer%20motherfucker&sourceid=mozilla2&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8" rel="nofollow">Motherfucker</a>" Blumer might say. ;-)

It's definitely hurt him. No matter what the polls say, we can't deny that it has had an impact. I spent last weekend in the Philadelphia suburbs doing voter registration, and the looks and comments of disgust I got from some (I was decked out in Obama gear) made it clear that it has had an impact. I talked to several people who said they were life long Democrats but might vote for McCain if Obama is the nominee, and this is in an area that should be strong for Obama (rich white liberals).

But these polls are encouraging, because they show that even if the Wright crap has hurt Obama, it hasn't killed him. He is still favored for the nomination and has a decent shot at winning the presidency. But we'd be naive to think that it hasn't hurt him at all.

The media wants to distract voters from the issues that really matter. The last time that occurred we got George W. Bush and a trillion dollar war. If you want to stand up for the issues that matter and Obama sign this petition (http://go.care2.com/14529998) and tell the media and the world, “We won’t be distracted. Not this time!”
