Alan Keyes, Not The Third-Party Candidate I Was Hoping For

I’ve been waiting for a well-known conservative third-party candidate to announce a run against McCain in the fall. Someone who can pull some votes away from the moderate Republican candidate and possibly give our guy or gal a boost.

Unfortunately, the closest thing we have so far is an announcement by Alan Keyes that he’s leaving the GOP and thinking about running as a Constitution Party candidate on an anti-immigrant platform.

Keyes made the announcement on Tuesday night in the ‘ballroom’ of Genetti’s Best Western Inn in Hazleton, PA.

Supposedly there were about 60 people attending the announcement- and quite a few empty chairs.

Nothing personal, Alan, but this isn’t exactly the big announcement I’ve been hoping for.

Plunderchat:

Keyes is obviously a joke.

But he still managed to pull in about 56 more crazy people than Carol Mosley Braun did for her announcement speech in 2004.

That’s because there isn’t anything else to do in Hazleton, PA except sit around and hate on immigrants.
