I knew Cafaro when we were teenagers and her family lived in Washington, DC. Even then, the “ethical time bomb” element was obvious, based on her parents’ uncanny ability to present as mob stereotypes. She was a naive to the ways of Washington culture as a young teenager but was fiercely ambitious even then, and I’m interested to see things work out for her.

I worked for Senator Kennedy in the mid-90s and Cafaro was only a part-time intern, not a staffer. She also interned for Republican Senator Al D’Amato. Staffers cringed when she was in the office because she and her family were ethical time bombs. She is not a Sarah Palin type — she is more Ted Stevens or Tom Delay or Dem Congressman Jefferson.

I’ve been pretty impressed with Capri when I’ve seen her in committee hearings. She definitely does her homework and asks lots of insightful questions. I think she probably does it to overcome that bleach-blonde shopping mall heiress thing. She even dyed her hair brown.

I think Capri gets a bad rap based on her family and past politics out of the Mahoning Valley. Though i think Roberts is the best choice AT THIS TIME, don’t count Capri out long term. The girls got skills!

I don’t really have a strong opinion either way on Cafaro, but it does seem to me that ME is being a little harsh.

That said, Roberts is clearly the better choice.

Cafaro has never been elected to anything. She has no right to a leadership position in the legislature if she can’t even get people to vote for her.
