Just wondering if everyone else is yawning as much as me. Maybe the 5:50pm conference call will liven me up!

Update: Here’s a thought. Wasn’t a Dem criticism of Republicans that they were a revolving door musical chairs? How does this play to that?

Speaking from experience, Bristol Palin says in a FOX News interview with Greta Van Susussususussteren that abstinence-only is “not realistic”.

She’s correct, of course. Being a teen mom is hard. Abstinence-only sex education is unrealistic. And, yes, abstaining from sex is the best way to avoid a whole host of headaches. That’s why crazy “loony liberals” like me promote full-spectrum sex education – so that kids understand that abstaining is best, but that if they succumb to their hormones like young Bristol did, they know how to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy and/or STDs.

They should have included a provision in the stimulus bill that prevents any money from going to the district of any representative who didn’t vote for it.

You don’t want the money? No problem – we’ll send it to someone who does.

David Vitter Fucked By Porn Star?

On February 12, 2009 By

It turns out I’m not the only one who hates homophobic, wife-cheating, prostitute-buying asshat David Vitter.

Adult video fans hate him too. Which explains why they are rallying behind porn star and potential Louisiana Senate candidate Stormy Daniels.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help, kids.

In the mean time I find myself compelled to focus on the humor surrounding the porn star-vs-sex-addict senate race. Specifically the humor found in the press releases and press coverage.

For example, The Daily Beast reports that Stormy’s campaign slogan is: “Stormy Daniels, screwing people honestly!”

Today’s entry.

Fellow soldiers in Iraq called John Wiley Needham “Needhammer” for his toughness. They also saw him as somehow charmed, because the tall blond Army private from Southern California always seemed to be just far enough away from danger. People died next to Needham; Needham survived.

But “Needhammer” was not indestructible after all. He struggled with the aftereffects of the explosions he’d dodged. He survived a suicide attempt while in Iraq, and, after being shipped out of the country in 2007, was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and a brain injury. He took so many prescription meds he [...]

Cantor v AFSCME, Round II

On February 11, 2009 By

So the public workers’ union AFSCME started running ads this week against Eric Cantor because he is opposing the stimulus bill. And rightfully so. Cantor is a huge fucking tool and he deserves as much shit as we can throw at him.

That said, Cantor’s response is still making me laugh.

In response, Eric decided to email talkingpointsmemo.com with one of the funniest fucking videos I’ve ever seen on the interwebs: the “we’re fucking AFSCME” video.

I know I’ve posted this a bunch of times, but it never gets old:

I have audio of President Obama saying the title of this post. Listen to it yourself.

[Audio clip: view full post to listen]

You might be somewhat confused as to why a recording of President Obama exists using such salty language, and it turns out that he had a friend named Ray during his youth who cursed like a sailor, and who was quoted in Dreams From My Father. When Obama made the audio version of the book, he had to read Ray’s quotes aloud. And boy, is it funny.

Hat tip to April Winchell, who also has many [...]

As a service to our readers, I will continue linking these articles until the series is complete. Salon has profiled three additional soldiers.

In addition to the stories of Adam Lieberman and Ryan Alderman, Salon examined the cases of three other Fort Carson-based soldiers who committed suicide. A number of common themes emerged. 1) A stigma, within the culture of the Army, against seeking mental healthcare; 2) pressure to deploy soldiers despite medical problems; 3) a failure to diagnose or properly treat combat veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder or brain injuries, despite clear symptoms; 4) a tendency to overmedicate [...]

Ken Blackwell really shouldn’t try to make impromptu, off-the-cuff comments…

The actual quote is by Mark Twain, not W.C. Fields: “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated. ”

Seriously, Steve?

On February 10, 2009 By

US Rep for OH-7 Steve Austria (R):

“When (President Franklin) Roosevelt did this, he put our country into a Great Depression,” Austria said. “He tried to borrow and spend, he tried to use the Keynesian approach, and our country ended up in a Great Depression. That’s just history.”

The Great Depression started 4 years before FDR took office, Steve. Boy, I bet voters in OH-7 are feeling hoodwinked right about now.
