NBC 4 in Columbus is supposed to running an exposé on the Department of Development during tonight’s 6 PM news broadcast. I saw a teaser ad yesterday that said something like “Is the Department of Development wasting your tax dollars?”
I’m not really expecting anything groundbreaking or life changing from this short piece by the local NBC affiliate. It’s true that Ohio lost more jobs than it gained last year because the national economy is in the toilet. Not really sure there is much the DOD could have done about that.
But still, knowing that Lee Fisher is going to be using his experience as Director of the DOD as part of his resume in the Senate race, bad press for the DOD right now is bad press for Lee.
I’ve got the Tivo set to record it. I’ll post the video if they cover anything interesting.
UPDATE:
Fucking waste of time. Can’t believe NBC gets story ideas from the biased retards at the Buckeye Institute.
“Chairman Steele, as the leader of America’s Pro-Life conservative party, needs to re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform. He then needs to get to work — or get out of the way.”
This isn’t new behavior for Blackwell. He never misses a chance to remind moderate Republicans like Steele that the GOP is a party of crazy christofascists and if you aren’t on board with hating gays and loving Jesus then you don’t belong.
Steele was elected RNC chairman because he promised to bring all sides together for the good of the party. Ken Blackwell, on the other hand, has continued to push his with-us-or-against-us message that has driven moderates away from the party and caused the GOP to lose big in the last few election cycles.
I always thought Blackwell was just a nutty social conservative who would rather see his party implode than see it give even a little on the issues he thinks are important.
It turns out I was wrong.
It turns out he’s a nutty social conservative who doesn’t understand that other people in his party aren’t also nutty social conservatives.
As evidence supporting this claim I submit to you the latest Townhall article by Mr. Blackwell titled “Conservatives’ False Division” in which he tries to convince his Republican readers that they should put aside their little differences on social issues and focus on a common enemy: the liberals.
It amazes me how tone deaf Kenny is when it comes to recognizing the sound of his party ripping itself apart.
It is obvious to everyone that it isn’t the lack of a common enemy that is causing this rift. It’s the lack of a common sense approach to living in the modern world.
Can’t we all just hate the liberals and forget that we don’t agree on anything else?
Can’t we all just agree to avoid talking about the real issues and attack the big-government liberals who want to take away your guns and raise your taxes and spend the money on health care for lazy, good-for-nothing, mooching old people?
That solution actually worked for awhile back in the 90’s. Back when small-government conservatives and big-jesus conservatives got together to fight the Godless liberals.
But those days are SO gone. It’s over. Everyone knows it.
Everyone realizes that you can’t have a party platform based on liberty and freedom from government intervention while certain fringe members of that party want the government to monitor and regulate the sexual behavior and reproductive activities of its citizens.
It looks like BSB is still breaking stories. David reported two days ago that Jennifer Brunner would be supporting Franklin County Commissioner Marilyn Brown as her replacement for Secretary of State.
I found it a little hard to believe. Thought maybe David was full of crap.
Paula Brooks, maybe. But Marilyn Brown?
But it turns out it’s true. I just got Marilyn’s press release.
And I’m kind of amazed, actually.
It’s really in Jennifer Brunner’s best interest that the Dems have the strongest possible candidate for SOS in 2010.
Jennifer needs to win the support of Ohio’s Democrats for her primary run against Lee Fisher and a lot of those Democrats think Jennifer should stay were she is.
To win over these Dems Jennifer really needs to show she has a solid candidate to run as her replacement for Secretary of State.
I guess I’m left wondering: is Marilyn Brown that candidate?
It really could screw Brunner’s chances in the primary if the rest of the party thinks Brown isn’t up for the challenge.
NEW YORK (Reuters) – In an ironic twist, public anger about massive bonuses at bailed-out insurer American International Group may have helped big investors land a sweeter deal in the U.S. government’s latest financial rescue plan.
In his weekly address today President Obama discussed his budget, claiming it would help cut the deficit and help improve the economy.
It wasn’t a great speech, but it did keep me engaged throughout and, by the end, I felt like I had a pretty good idea what he was trying to say and where he wanted to take the country.
Not so with the Republican follow up.
Continuing the trend of choosing total losers to respond to Obama’s speeches, the Republicans had Gov. Haley Barbour of Mississippi give the Republican response this week.
From what I remember of his speech (which isn’t much), Haley disagreed with President Obama. Calling him a tax and spend liberal, etc.
I tried to pay attention, but mainly I was sitting there thinking: “Dude! Your name is HALEY! And you are ragging on the president??”
He might as well have been introducing his two sons Shannon and Saxby, the male nurse and the women’s studies major.
Next time, I recommend the Republicans get someone with a very manly name to respond to President Obama’s speech. Bobby and Haley just aren’t going to cut it.
I suggest getting the guy with THE most manly name ever: Michael Steele.
I know, I know. Hoops holiday. Consider this multi-tasking. This was too good to pass up. Joe the Non-Plumber is horny. He thought you all should know and so do I:
Which is really good news considering that Rasmussen has Republicans leading Dems nationally 41 – 39 in a generic congressional ballot.
In the same Quinnipiac poll Fisher leads Brunner in the primary 18% to 14% with 46% undecided. The poll also included Ryan (12%) and Yates (6%). Lots of time left to see these numbers change.
Governor Strickland and Barack Obama are also losing ground in Ohio – though both still maintain very high favorable ratings (56 for Ted, 57 for Barack) considering the horrible economic crisis we’re in.
Today is a national holiday in case you were unaware. Many will know that I typically take the first Thursday and Friday off – or somewhat off – to watch the NCAA tournament. Though Kentucky is in the damned NIT, I’m still doing so. I’m a college hoops fanatic. I got a bracket filled out. My final 4 teams are the same as Obama’s. I’m ready to get this madness started!
So no politics today…or probably tomorrow either. One has to set priorities somewhere. I pick hoops over hoopla.
