Wow. Didn’t see this one coming. As Tim notes, a house resolution passed overwhelmingly today that recognized Hawaii as President Obama’s birthplace. A total jab to the birther insanity that has gripped the GOP.
Boehner voted for it. Schmidt voted for it. Hell, the guy who sponsored the damned “birther bill” voted FOR it.
My congressman and PB Joseph’s congresswoman? Tiberi and Kilroy both “not voted”. OK. Tiberi I get. But Mary Jo? MARY JO?!@?
Congresswoman Kilroy, please contact us immediately regarding this. I’m hoping there’s a real good explanation.

Rick Brunner (candidate Jennifer Brunner’s husband) has asked the Inspector General to investigate the Ohio Department of Taxation’s attempt to damage his wife’s campaign by falsely suspending his corporation’s status for failing to file the proper tax documentation years ago. Everything was filed on time and the status has since been re-instated.
Clear political machinations designed to hurt a political campaign via whatever means necessary.
Clearly backfired.
Modern at BSB and Tim at BI are all over it, of course.

Youngstown ? Congressman Tim Ryan today endorsed Lt. Governor Lee Fisher for U.S. Senate, citing his leadership in standing up for the hardworking families of Ohio. Congressman Ryan has represented Ohio?s 17th Congressional district, including most of the Mahoning Valley, since 2003.
Maybe Tim is officially part of the club now and no longer the young upstart challenger he once was. What’s the saying? Tim Ryan has.

It turns out someone at the ODP had the foresight to reserve the domain name robertportman.com. And they have done great things with it.

This time they seem to have revenge on their minds. Revenge against the guy who defeated their candidate and lost them their jobs: Governor Ted Strickland.

Full Story... →A bunch of Central Ohio’s largest employers are supporting a tax increase in Columbus and this is forcing Ohio’s conservatives like sleezy Republican lawyer Bill Todd and blogger Matt Naugle to choose between their principles: pro-business or anti-tax.
It’s a tough choice because their entire argument against higher taxes is based on the false belief that higher taxes will drive away businesses and, in turn, cause a loss of jobs.

Full Story... →I’m trying to figure out how The Dispatch picks stories to send out as Breaking News alerts. So far I have no clue and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yesterday I got an email from The Dispatch announcing this ‘breaking news’: “Ohio unemployment hits 11.1 percent”.
Sure, numbers from the ODJFS are important and mildly interesting. But does something like this require a breaking news alert? Not really.
The day before I got this one: “Firefighter who killed dogs is fired.”
Really? THAT is breaking news?
Am I supposed to know who this firefighter is?

Full Story... →I just saw Michael Steele on Wolf Blitzer saying that the primary focus of the Republican Party right now is to defeat the Democrat’s healthcare reform plans. Given their horrible showing in the past few elections, you’d think the Republicans might want to spend their time coming up with some ideas of their own instead of just trying to stomp on the Democrats big projects. But that’s a topic for another, longer post.
