OK, I’m basically from Louisville, KY (50 miles south). Proud of it. It’s home.
But WTF, Louisville?

Full Story... →So I just read that one of the most backwards, homophobic, nasty, ugly, hate-filled conservative groups in Ohio (Citizens for Community Values) had a meeting with the nice folks over at Progress Ohio last week to discuss how they can work together to fight against bringing casinos to Ohio.
This bothers me for SO many reasons. So much so that I?ve decided to give up my self-imposed ban on posting about Issue 3 just this once.
My big pain point here is that CCV is using the same logic to fight the casinos that they used [...]

Full Story... →So Sean Hannity goes on the radio and whines and bitches and demands an apology from the ODP because they ragged on him for doing fund raisers with John Kasich.
ODP Executive Director Doug Kelly comes back with what has to be the best apology ever:
“The Ohio Democratic Party is indeed sorry that Sean Hannity is such a thin-skinned, tea-bagging blowhard who cares more about pumping up his ratings than helping pull America out of the ditch that he, John Kasich, and their fellow-right wingers drove our country into.”

ISSUE 3 BACKERS TARGET OF HAMILTON COUNTY GRAND JURY INVESTIGATION
TruthPAC calls for statewide election board review
(CLEVELAND, OH) – On Monday, when the out-of-state casino developers bankrolling Issue 3 admitted an agent of their campaign committed voter fraud, this was no surprise to Hamilton County law enforcement.
Hamilton County sheriff’s deputies had already dropped grand jury subpoenas on pro-casino forces and seized records from their downtown Cincinnati offices. Reeling, the committee’s chief pointed the finger at one employee of their out-of-state vendor, Fieldworks, Inc.
Suspicious of the developers’ statement, Ohio’s anti-casino campaign called for [...]
Full Story... →I nearly missed it! 4 years ago today I began the Plunderventure by putting up my first post.
It’s been 4 great years of sometimes manic posting (ah, the days!), sometimes sporadic posting, and most of all adding two other great voices to mine (Joe and Brian).
Thanks to everyone who has read, commented, fought blog battles, laughed, cried, and done our best to push for progressive values and hold politicians of both parties accountable. It’s been great knowing you all!
Let’s keep going. What do you say?
4 more years! 4 more years!

Hell, Columbus already has more murders per 100,000 people than Las Vegas. Last I checked they had legalized gambling in the form of casinos. Lots of them.
Murders in 2007 (per 100,000):
Las Vegas – 9
Columbus, Ohio – 11
I know. Property crimes are what increase when casinos come to town! Yes. Property crimes.
Property crimes in 2007 (per 100,000):
Las Vegas – 4,3,92
Columbus, Ohio – 6,996
Whoops. I may be inadvertently making the case here for SEVERAL casinos downtown! No wait. Maybe robberies will increase. Robbery has to [...]
Full Story... →TruthPAC, the anti-casino Issue 3 spam machine, just stepped in it. A reader forwarded to me their site bashing Lyle Berman by asking (in Where’s Waldo fashion) where he is. It’s cute. By half.
Problem. The out-of-state developer who put the neat little javascript rollover doesn’t even know where Delaware, Ohio is! (hint: it’s NORTH of Columbus jackasses, not SOUTH!)
Nice work with the big bad rich boogeyman backer argument though. Should your opponents on the other side start screaming about George Soros now or later?
Maybe they should have asked their partners ProgressOhio where [...]

Warning. Our favorite insane so-called Progressive blogger stalking friend Dave Hickman is back! Comments here at PB (soon to be released in the special Hickmania thread) indicate that we should proceed with moving the Hickmania Threat Level to RED (high).

Full Story... →If you’re like me, your inbox if just about flooded with Issue 3 (Casinos) nonsense. I was surprised to see my old employer ProgressOhio take a stand on this one. It doesn’t really seem like a core Progressive value, this gambling is evil and must be stopped mantra.
What surprised me further, is their reliance on John W. Kindt. Kindt, framed by PO as a “nationally acclaimed gambling expert“, could more accurately be portrayed as a “nationally known anti-gambling zealot”. It’s not like his research is flawed or he’s gone down the “legalized gambling is a [...]
