As a politically-active 30-something feminist, I have to say I do not want to see health care reform defeated because of this amendment. Let's get the reform in place and deal with this issue later. The Republicans are just trying to distract us - and, surprise, surprise - we are falling for it!

I understand the argument that this will disproportionately impact lower-income women, but, come on, they (and their families) need access to health care now!

BTW, am I the only woman who didn't know abortion was covered by ANY health insurance plan?

Thanks, Eric.

FYI:

Pete Sessions sees it as a VAT - and you need to check out what the V stands for:

http://tbogg.firedoglake.com/2009/11/08/just-la...

And we can also view it as a subsidy for male anatomy:

http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/13796

I didn't write those posts - just lettin' folks know how Stupak affects 150 million Americans called...females.

FYI, NYT says two Dem Senators already are considering inserting Stupak-like amendments into their version of hcr:

"Now some Senate Democrats, including Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Ben Nelson of Nebraska, are pushing to incorporate the same restrictions in their own bill. Senior Senate Democratic aides said the outcome was too close to call."

Link: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/09/us/politics/0...
