On a lighter note...

It's All In How You Say It

Nancy Pelosi was touring the countryside in a chauffeur-driven car. Suddenly, a cow jumps out into the road, they hit it full on, and the car comes to a stop. Nancy, in her usual charming manner, says to the chauffeur: 'You get out and check - you were driving.'

The chauffeur gets out, checks, and reports that the animal is dead but it was old.

'You were driving; go and tell the farmer,' says Nancy

Two hours later, the chauffeur returns totally plastered, hair ruffled with a big grin on his face. 'My God, what happened to you?' asks Nancy.

The chauffeur replies:'When I got there, the farmer opened his best bottle of Scotch whisky, the wife cooked me a great meal and the daughter made love to me.'

'What on earth did you say?' asks Nancy.

I said to them: 'I'm Nancy Pelosi's chauffeur, and I've just killed the old cow.'

C'mon... admit it... its funny

Maybe it was a bit of snark but could you tell me what path Jennifer Brunner follows to the nomination for US Senate? I've been thinking about this for a while now and I don't see an avenue. Her fundraising has sucked and Fisher has pretty much been anointed by the state and national parties. I'm open to being convinced but it seems less and less likely with each passing day.

Interesting observation JeffHess. Only time any government shrinks is when there IS outside influence. Sadly, the outside influence is usually tied to declining tax revenues which in many cases, is in direct correlation to the economy in general... a Chicken or Egg scenario.

Maybe New Government Spending Programs should not be tolerated at any time during an economic downturn? Rather, a reduction in actual numbers of people recieving government checks for their efforts and labors should by dynamic, and like their private counter-parts, increase and decrease as necessary to balance things out. And, once things do turnaround, the need to increase government spending/payrolls should be tempered as well.

Those folks on Capitol Hill, regardless of Party Affiliation, just spend too much without any consequences. Meanwhile, you and I must keep an eye on our cash flows, lest we be the ones responsible for increasing government expenditures in the form of unemployment compensation, bankruptcy, or foreclosure as we succumb to the forces of the overall economy.

Putting the blame on this or that President is humorous.

Shalom Tim,

Let me say upfront that the real Republican strategy is looney tunes but it is a very real, very long-term strategy. Here's how it works.

First principle: government is bad but necessary, with the corollary that the smaller government is, the less bad it is.

Second principle: any government will grow as much as it is possible to grow, with the corollary that it is impossible to reverse government growth from the inside.

If the first and second principles are taken as true, which I have every reasons to believe that what passes for conservatism in the United States today does, then the only way to reverse government growth, without revolution, is to starve the beast.

Hence the consistent effort by Republican leadership, over the years as illustrated by this chart, to push the federal government as close to the bankruptcy cliff as possible with the expected end game being a catastrophic (for the government, but not the nation in their view) reduction in the size of the federal government.

Their crazy, but not stupid and we risk our own survival by ever assuming that they don't know precisely what they're doing.

B'shalom,

Jeff

B'shalom,

Jeff
