Is Goodman engaging in payback to Strickland Administration?
Senator David Goodman (R-Columbus) is in his lame duck term.? He’s largely legislated as a moderate Republican (or in Naugle-ese “RINO”) and has almost been downright socially liberal on issues, like adding GLBT protections to Ohio’s employment anti-discrimination laws.
So I (and apparently other Capitol Square watchers) have been taken back by Goodman’s rather hard right turn on the whole affair involving tobacco at the Governor’s Mansion.
I’ve been told this story is circulating around the hearing room that is the only explanation I’ve heard, and it makes a lot of sense.
Apparently, Senator Goodman believes his social moderate stances has earned him enough credit with the Strickland Administration to warrant an appointment in the Administrations Republican affirmative action program (just kidding, there’s no program… but why else do these Republicans believe their entitled to appointments in Democratic Administrations?)
Well, the word is that Goodman learned earlier this year that there’s no appointment in his future in the Strickland Administration.
A disappointed Goodman pouted to the Strickland folks “people like me get appointments” to no avail.
Now, he’s gunning for the ODPS Director.? I sure hope he doesn’t think that his gig on the Senate Criminal Justice Committee in this hearing is an audition for Cathy Collins-Taylor’s job…. or petty political payback because his government service is ending.
