[UPDATE:] Billy Jo Gregg, Jr. pleads guilty is sentenced to eight months in jail
(HT: Cleveland Scene)
The guy who became an instant Internet viral villian for punching and kicking cows & calves on videois now sitting in a jail cell for the next eight months after pleading guilty to six counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
“Billy Joe Gregg, Jr., pleaded guilty today in Marysville Municipal Court to six counts of cruelty to animals. Six other charges were dropped in a plea agreement. Gregg got eight months’ jail time and a $1,000 fine. He also got three years’ probation during which he’s require to get counseling and can’t be around animals for three years.”
The most he could be put on probation was five years. I’m assuming that what he was charged with was second-degree misdemeanor animal cruelty, which carries up to a maximum 90 days in jail and maximum $750 fine per count. Therefore, the most he could have been sentenced was 18 months in jail and $4,500 in fines… theoretically. However, since this was a plea deal, it would have been unheard of for Gregg to have gotten the absolute maximum sentence permitted by law.
In fact, assuming Gregg had no prior criminal history, the fact that he got as lengthy of a sentence as he did was pretty exceptional. Then again, so were the shocking facts of the case.
