John Kasich likes to talk about how he never forgets about working people because he’s a son of a postal carrier.  And yet, not even the Dispatch can gloss over Kasich’s anti-public union rhetoric.

During a speech before Ashtabula County Republicans in March 2009, Kasich talked about the need to "break the back of organized labor in the schools," according to the Ashtabula Star Beacon. He did not back away from that quote last week, saying as he pushes ideas to change schools he has often clashed with teachers unions, who have "smeared my record and distorted it."

John Kasich loves to talk about Bob Evans.

First he schedules a presser at one of their restaurants and then he talked about his experiences at the debate. And I’m sure, to John, the situation really did stand out for him – mainly for the novelty of situation. Not only did he willingly interact with poor people but he did it at a Bob Evans!

While I won’t say it’s impossible that John Kasich eats at Bob Evans on a regular basis (read: ever), I do find it pretty difficult to imagine John and the pretty Kasich ladies scarfing [...]

John Kasich and Rob Portman aren’t just running a campaign on jobs and the economy.  But very specificially, they’re claiming that Ohio’s economic woes are because despite 16 years of all Republican rule in the State of Ohio before Governor Strickland took office, Ohio is such a horrible taxing and regulatory environment that businesses just cannot succeed here and have been engaged in a mass migration out of the State.

Remember this Rob Portman ad?

OMG!  Look at those fleeing arrows out of Ohio!  We’ve lost nearly 400,000 while setting a record of mass business migration out [...]

I make it my business to find redemption stories, for obvious reasons.  I found one in my own election returns.  Another one is playing out nationally, and it intersects nicely.

At every given point since 1999, my beloved Cleveland Browns have scraped the bottom of every barrel for quarterbacks to bring back the magic of the Bernie Kosar era.  They’ve all sucked.  Big time.  With clock-like regularity.  When Michael Vick got out of prison, few voices in Cleveland, if any, even hinted at Vick signing in Cleveland to play for a team whose signature fan base is called The [...]

Behold the strongly worded memo from Strickland campaign manager Aaron Pickrell:

Today, the Ohio Newspaper Poll confirms the race between Ted Strickland and John Kasich is very close.  Our strategy has always been to make this a choice between these two candidates and not a referendum on the national economic status quo.  It is becoming that choice.  As voters get to know Kasich better and as differences on job creation, education, seniors’ issues, and the budget dominate the debate, the race will continue to move our way.

“Internal polling shows that voters trust Ted and feel like he is fighting [...]

Seriously, I would bet money that Yost shot this ad when he was still running in the GOP A.G. primary against Mike DeWine and then just redid the voiceover and add the CPA endorsements which, frankly, is easily missed in the visuals.

And I’m not alone.  The Columbus Dispatch asks essentially the same thing.  One of the things that the GOP thought Yost would be able to use effectively against his opponent, Hamilton County David Pepper, is the fact that Yost was a County Auditor before he was a County Prosecutor.  But this ad doesn’t mention it at all.  [...]

What do you do if you’ve spent weeks crowing about polls showing double-digit leads  nobody else believes are accurate, the Ohio Poll shows the race practically tied?  Well, if you’re the Carpetblogger, you imply that the Ohio Poll has been biased in Strickland’s favor the whole time:

During that time, The Ohio Poll also joined Quinnipiac as the only poll to show Ted Strickland leading the race. The difference? Quinnipiac never had support for Strickland above 44%.

Get that?  Pay no attention to the Ohio Poll, Keeling says, because it and Quinnipiac were the only polls at times when [...]

Democratic Secretary of State candidate Maryellen O’Shaughnessy snapped this picture of roughly 700 University of Cincinnati students listening to Congressman Steve Driehaus during the ODP’s Coordinated Campaign’s bus stop in Cincinnati.

If you have your own pictures you’d like to share (whether or not you’re from the campaigns), be sure to send them to us.

Looks like this weekend went very well.

And John Kasich already has a preview for his knockoff–“Wall Street: Outsourcing Never Stops.”

First, Kasich tries to pass himself off as a knock off of Ted Strickland, now Gordon Gekko.

Kasich began the week with a new ad on education—something that seemed incredibly off-message on a campaign that has said it is focused exclusively on jobs and on an issue that Democrats traditionally win.  Kasich has not  announced any concrete plan for education, which made the decision to do an ad on education even more bizarre.  That, including with Kasich’s comments about scrapping Gov. Strickland’s evidence-based model, lead to a week of headlines across Ohio that Kasich’s education plan would result in higher property taxes across the State.  Not exactly the kind of headlines the Kasich campaign was hoping [...]

Just as they did in 2006, the Ohio Democratic Party is doing a bus tour of their statewide candidates in Southeast Ohio (Strickland’s geographic base) and Southwestern Ohio (the GOP geographic base) this weekend.

These are pictures snapped from the Lucasville rally today.

Here’s the crowd Kasich at a rally in the same county the campaign hyped last month for their crowd size:

That was at the former Damon’s at the former Ramada Inn in downtown Portsmouth.  I grew up there.  That’s not even the largest banquet room.  That about as far back [...]
