Franklin, Cuyahoga, Montgomery, and now Mahoning County have either already outpaced or likely to outpace the 2006 Early Vote.
From WKBN 27 in Youngstown:
The Mahoning County Board of Elections said this is a busier than normal off-year election.
"It’s been very busy compared to the 2006 governor’s election," Mahoning County Board of Elections Deputy Director Joyce Kale-Pesta said. "We counted 14,000 absentees at that time and right now we’re at 17,420."
The Board of Elections is expecting 25,000 absentee votes this year, and with the polls tightening up in the governors race, the Board of Elections [...]
Full Story... →One of the cool things about living in Cleveland during an election cycle is that you get to see every ad for statewide candidates that anyone ever runs. People poo-poo on Cuyahoga centric thinking among Ohio Dems, which is fair, but just turn on the TV in prime time and that’ll tell you how important this nook of Ohio is to candidates. Kasich and Ted are throwing haymakers on the air. Likely the most competitive gubernatorial ad war since 1998 (we all know who lost that one, don’t we).
I don’t see a problem with any of the ads except [...]
Full Story... →Almost as soon as I put up a post laughing that Keeling had been strangely silent on this weekend’s Ohio Poll, Keeling puts up a rushed post that reads like it’s coming from an over-the-hill porn starlet who just can’t even manage to fake it anymore.
Yea, Kasich’s ahead a meaningless two points, and is under 50% a week before the election.
Yea, a poll that says it’s sampling of Independents is so small it has a disclaimer saying that it’s numbers may not be an accurate reflection, but I’m going to talk about a trend line there [...]
Full Story... →Jon Keeling (R-VA) has a poll obsession. We all know that the second a favorable poll for Kasich comes out, he’s there with a post. And if a poll has shown Strickland close, Keeling’s there to argue why it doesn’t matter as much as an aggregate average that includes Quinnipiac which both party leaders acknowledged cannot be believed.
Within minutes of the last Ohio Poll, Keeling was quick with a post. Yesterday, nothing. He was instead talking on Twitter about the importance of newspaper endorsements. Never mind that the Cleveland Plain Dealer failed to pick the winner in [...]
Full Story... →Here’s a picture I took yesterday at the Circleville Pumpkin Show…
I’ve seen these nice folks (from the Tea Party-inspired “Ohio Project“) at festivals all summer long trying to get their anti-healthcare petition signed. I’ll cover their ridiculously selfish and uninformed petition in more detail in another post. For now I just wanted to share this picture and quickly discuss the skewed logic of their endeavor.
At the Newark Strawberry Festival (which was probably one of the worst festivals I’ve ever attended in my entire life) the Ohio Project booth was appropriately located across from the vendor selling [...]
Full Story... →On WKYC’s Between the Lines this morning, Bill Mason showed up with assistant prosecutor Dan Kasaris (weird. why?), and called the Scene story about his impending resignation “embarrassing”, saying there are no facts to support it. Not really a denial there, Bill. On the FBI investigation into the coroner’s office hiring of Strongsville councilman Pat Coyne, Mason sold his buddy Coyne down the river, threw him under the bus, ran over him in forward and then reverse, you name it, telling Tom Beres that all those other losers are “responsible for their own conduct.” Mason and Kasaris repeatedly defended their [...]
Full Story... →Today, the Ohio Poll came out with it’s second poll in a week, this time for the Ohio Newspaper Organization.
Yep, that’s 49% to 47%. A week ago, the Ohio Poll claimed it was a 51%-43% race.
If you’re wondering, yes, part of the reason for the change is that the Ohio Poll slightly altered its likely voter model since the last Ohio Poll. However, the change really wasn’t significant. According to the Columbus Dispatch:
“Today’s poll shows Republicans outnumbering Democrats by 5 percentage points, with independents making up only 9 percent of [...]
Full Story... →Seriously, just listen to this 10 minute screed (hard, I know), and tell me this isn’t precisely what is heard on Fox News all day, every day. Probably a $2 million contract in his future. Only thing he’s missing is the colonial garb.
Full Story... →Campaign for America’s Future as a new “independent expenditure” group that is trying to counter the flood of U.S. Chamber of Commerce and American Crossroads (Karl Rove’s group) advertising.
The ad is running in Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland. (They are also running the ad in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin as well.
Full Story... →I was all set to go to bed when I started thinking about this quote in Politico about Ohio’s early voting that I mentioned in my last post:
Ballots have been requested by 839,390 Ohio voters thus far, with Democrats comprising about 40 percent to the GOP’s 30 percent, and the rest unaffiliated voters.
And it was eating at me. Where have I seen that kind of partisan breakdown in Ohio before??? And then I remembered this graphic:
That was the partisan breakdown of Ohio’s electorate in a 2008 CNN exit poll.
If [...]
