Kasich The Beggar

On August 9, 2011 By

In an effort to lay the groundwork that somehow the “We Are Ohio” campaign, and not John Kasich, has been unreasonable on SB 5, the Dispatch continues with its myth that Governor John Kasich suddenly wants to compromise on SB 5 in order to avoid an Issue 2 campaign.

Note that this story doesn’t name a single source.

Yesterday, sources told Dispatch reporters that informal discussions between two people affiliated with the defense of Senate Bill 5 and representatives from the Ohio Education Association and the AFL-CIO took place about six weeks ago, but labor backed away.

We’ve never [...]

I feel like we do some pretty decent Photoshop work here at Plunderbund. Hell, we kind of pride ourselves on it.

But it looks like nonnie9999 may have officially outdone us with this timely and very-revealing tribute to the Hangover movie poster based on our posts about the drunk and disorderly debauchery of Ohio Republican lawmakers Jarrod Martin, Kris Jordan and Bob Mecklenborg.

That image of Jarrod Martin with the black eye keeps cracking me up!

As Joseph already pointed out, the Ohio Republican Party and it’s Chairman Kevin DeWine have been completely hypocritical and have indeed lost all credibility when it comes to misconduct by the party’s officeholders.  The news that State Senator Kris Jordan (R-Powell) will not be charged in the domestic event that occurred at his residence adds fuel to this fire.  The Jordan story has been popular here in part because a good political scandal is always a traffic magnet, but also because our readers are so passionate on this particular issue.  I’ve had some email contact with one and [...]

If you need any further evidence that supporters of Senate Bill 5 are  becoming increasingly convinced that it will be repealed this November, enter today’s laughable editorial in the Columbus Dispatch (“Meet in the middle”)

We’ve heard this tune before.  We wrote about it back in June when Plain Dealer Kasich apologist Brent Larkin wrote the same thing.  If public polling didn’t show that 56% of Ohioans support repealing the bill, you wouldn’t see this nonsense coming out.

But at least Brent Larkin admitted that it was Kasich’s heavy handed approach that doomed SB 5 [...]

It is common for those critical of education in America to link a teacher’s contractual schedule to their actual work and claim that teaching is a part-time job.  In Ohio, the right-wing think tank Buckeye Institute has been doing as they miscalculate the pay of teachers and post it online, and they most recently reiterated their stance as part of their 15 Myths about Collective Bargaining Reform and Senate Bill 5 (myth #14).  Modern soundly rebuked these a few weeks ago, but I want to spend a little extra time discussing the absurd notion that teachers [...]

In their latest attempt to disguise their failed efforts at convincing us that a majority of Ohioans support the union-busting legislation in Ohio, John Kasich’s agent group, Building a Better Ohio has teamed up with some unhappy Tea Party teachers and filed a class-action lawsuit in federal court against the Ohio Education Association and some of its affiliates, including a local association to which they have absolutely no connection.

On the day after Better Ohio lost their argument (presented by attorney Donald Brey) in front of the Ohio Ballot Board to try and have the Senate Bill 5 [...]

We had requested a copy of any recording at the scene of Senator Jordan’s domestic violence call, but the Columbus Dispatch apparently got it before we did.

Senator Jordan is a total prick.

Sen. Jordan, a Republican from Powell, told deputies that he and his wife had argued over his not cleaning their condo. Cruiser dashboard camera recordings released yesterday detail the deputies’ conversations with the Jordans.

“She got a little upset,” Sen. Jordan told a deputy on the recording. “Girls do that.”

The 34-year-old senator went on to say the incident was “90 percent emotion.”

“I threw [...]

So much for that structurally balanced budget Kasich’s been talking about.  From Gongwer:

Ohio’s coffers started the first month of the new fiscal year slightly in the red compared to state analysts’ projections, with a dip in personal income and tobacco taxes the main culprits.

When income taxes, cigarettes, and non-auto sales tax all come below estimates, estimates the Kasich Administration claimed were already conservative in their growth, you’ve got an economic problem on your hand.

Now, let’s reiterate here.  The last six months of Ted Strickland’s last budget showed the State consistently come in with above projected revenues.  Kasich’s [...]

(this was originally posted at OhioBudgetWatch.com by Budget Watcher, but I thought it provided such great insight into Kasich’s corporate giveaways that it deserved to be re-posted here…)

I know we’ve talked about this budget as though it’s all gloom and doom with its privatization, layoffs and local tax increases it will generate. But why dwell on the negative, when you too can profit from this budget?

If you have an E-Trade account and cash to invest, here are a few publicly-traded companies who are positioned well to profit from Ohio’s recently enacted budget*.

Prison Privatization – with five prisons [...]

John Kasich has broken with a fairly recent tradition of Ohio’s governor by not sleeping overnight on the Ohio State Fairgrounds.  The reason we’ve consistently heard that he’s given (but I’m unable to find a published news report confirming it) is that one of his daughters has severe allergies  (even though the tradition has never required the Governor’s kids to sleep in the State Fair barn.)

Which is why I was surprised to see this item in the Columbus Dispatch:

Gov. John Kasich decided not to follow tradition of his predecessors and sleep overnight at [...]

From a statement released from the Delaware City Prosector’s Office:

Assistant City Prosecutor Joe Schmansky said he believed probable cause existed to file a charge.

"Nevertheless, an important consideration in determining whether to initiate a domestic violence case is the wishes of the victim," Schmansky said in a press release. "This factor is critical because it impacts the likelihood of success at trial, particularly in a case such as this where the victim is the only witness (other than the defendant) who can provide testimony as to the circumstances that gave rise to the case."

Schmansky added Mrs. [...]
