Tomorrow is Equality Chicken Day! Or #MarriageEqualityDay as the kids are calling it on Twitter. The ongoing boycott of the fast food chain has produced some interesting developments. Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee called for a National Chik-Fil-A appreciation day tomorrow, encouraging supporters to give money to the company so they can continue to use that money to work against equality. In response, on August 1st, equality loving people everywhere will donate the cost of a Chik-Fil-A Combo (approx. $6.50) to their favorite gay rights & equality charities and organizations.

If you live in Ohio, I strongly suggest you give the money to Equality Ohio. That’s our statewide LGBT organization that has been doing the long term work to advance equal rights. They work to pass legislation to protect children from bullying, to protect workers from discrimination in the workplace, to protect people from discrimination in housing, and to advance marriage rights.

You can click THIS LINK to read an article about the boycott and about this special effort of August 1st. You can also watch this video of me excitedly explaining what is going on…

And honestly you don’t have to forgo eating as many tasty chicken sandwiches as you want. Check out this article from Grist called, “How to eat a Chick-fil-A sandwich without supporting Chick-fil-A.” You can have you cake and eat it too. You can have your chicken and support equality too. Isn’t this fun? They don’t call us gay for nothing.

Update: Tuesday, July 30th, 1:00pm – The effort has just activated www.equalitychicken.com and www.equalitychicken.org to redirect to their FB event page. So now you have another handy tool for finding them, and for sharing the information with your friends!

  • Chick-Fil-A is rad!

Record one day sales for Chick-Fil-A on your protest day, Ms Kinsey. Your boycott really worked!!!

I have to admit I was also amazed. Great work supporting bigotry and intolerance! Your children and grandchildren will look back with pride and joy that their elders were participants in such an important cultural event.

  • aparthied?

Don’t you think comparing Chick-Fil-A to Aparthied is a bit of a stretch?
