United States an example of troubled democracy in a new report

Today, the Global Commission on Elections, Democracy and Security released a report titled “Deepening Democracy: A Strategy for Improving the Integrity of Elections Worldwide”. The report is not particularly glowing with regards to the status of American democracy, specifically pointing out recent efforts to suppress African American voting (page 30) and problems with political finance (page 34) – two of the five stated challenges to the integrity of elections.

    Voter suppression and spending gazillions on lying ads are clear signs of republican desperation. They can’t win the fight fairly so they’ll try to win however they can. Trouble is, those they have to win over, about 10% of the voting population, still see fair play as an American value and reject these tactics. To make matters worse, in their zeal to revive the 1950′s white male dominated culture, they’ve alientated the largest voting block in the country–women. That’s who will decide this election.

    What? We’re not the GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH? Who’s more qualified to bring democracy to the Iraqi or Afghani people? Clearly the authors of this report hate Americans for their freedom.
