3,520 days after Americans woke up to witness the largest mass casualty of a terrorist attack in our world history, we woke up to the news that the Administration of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner had killed Osama bin Laden, a mastermind and chief financier of the global terrorist network.

Last night, President Obama informed former President George Bush about the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden. President Bush released this statement:

Earlier this evening, President Obama called to inform me that American forces killed Osama bin Laden, [...]

But then again, President Bush at least waited until AFTER the election before he admitted he’d break his no new taxes pledge. Kasich did it Saturday some 17 days before Early Voting.

Notice what else is missing from Kasich in Saturday’s Dispatch? Not only does he admit that he’s willing to consider abolishing tax expenditures (targeted tax cuts) to balance the budget, but there’s no mention by Kasich of his proposal to repeal Ohio’s income and estate taxes. Only Governor Strickland brought it up.

Yesterday, GONGWER reported Ohio House Minority Leader Batchelder said this in response to questions about John Kasich’s income tax proposal:

“It was never his major proposal,” Mr. Batchelder said. “It was something he had discussed at one point, and very frankly I think that it’s very clear that with the economy where it is now, that kind of a change cannot be made.”

“When he originally said it he said very carefully that it depends on the economy,” he said.

Comparing John Kasich to Ken Blackwell turns up more similarities than differences

Last week, Ted Strickland compared John Kasich to Ken Blackwell in a comments to the press at the Ohio State Fair. Jon Keeling heard about this in Virginia and got the vapors.

I don’t know why. Anyone that reviews what little the Kasich campaign has shared sees an awful alot of similarities:

Both claim the legacy of President Ronald Reagan. Both are economic and social conservatives. Both frequently compared Ohio’s economy to Florida’s to try to sell their platforms. Both ran on platform of large tax cuts for the richest Ohioans as a “job creation” plan. Both ran on [...]

In 2000, when he dropped out of the Presidential race, GOP Gubernatorial candidate John Kasich called W. Bush his “soul brother.”

In a June 26, 2009 CNN story on the Bush years (featured on Kasich’s campaign website), Kasich said:

“The Republican Party is my vehicle, not my master,” he said. “I mean I am here to try to bring prosperity back to this state, to make sure families are better off. I’m not here to carry anyone’s banner.”

Labeling the same old Bush-McCain policies as change? Still the same old policies.

Putting lipstick on a pig? Still a pig.

I think the analogy works and the Obama campaign should not be bullied into shying away from it.

During “an emotional Academy Awards-style celebration” of the 60th birthday of Israel, George Bush is seen crying after Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert praises him.

Dan Froomkin, in a piece on washingtonpost.com, has an interesting take on Bush’s latest moment of tears:

Economists Think We’re In A Recession

USA Today polled 52 economists asking “Do you think the U.S. economy is currently is a recession?”

67% said Yes.

Another 12% said we would be this year.

President Bush, however, still refuses to admit it- instead calling our current situation just a ‘very slow economy’.

His solution: make his 2001 tax cuts for the rich permanent.

Seven years after implementing these tax cuts that were supposed to stimulate the economy we are, by most measures, in a recession. Gas prices are at an all time high. The housing market in shambles.
