Guiliani is Done

He spent a ton of time thanking all of his staff.
Check please.
Hearing he might get behind McCain. John is looking unstoppable at this point. Good stuff.

Rudy’s “one hour” myth

Rudy “9/11″ Giuliani’s new advert puts forth a horribly false meme: that the Iranian hostages were released within an hour of Reagan’s inauguration (true) because Reagan was “tough on terror” (false).

Unfortunately for Rudy’s version of history, what actually happened was the release agreement was signed the day before the inaugural… and was negotiated by the […]

This guy is leading polls of Republicans for President?

A town hall meeting from 2001 where Rudy shows what he’s all about.

Yeah, a Giuliani Administration would be a huge improvement over the chuckleheads we have now. (Rolleyes)

For whom the bell tolls…

The implosion of the GOP is the fruits of their own labor. They worked so hard to court the far-wingnut-right, especially the “Values Voters”, that those hardline evangelical groups feel entitled to get their ideal GOP candidate. They aren’t very happy.
In June, [Focus on the Family’s James Dobson] said: “I cannot, and […]

A Nation of Bedwetters

This article by Rick Perlstein perfectly underlines what a bunch of sissies we’ve been over the entire Ahmadinejad visit. I’ve made this comparison elsewhere - why can’t be behave like we did when Nikita “We will bury you” Khrushchev visited during the height of the Cold War in 1959?
Nikita Khrushchev disembarked from his plane […]

The possible new AG

Rumors are that Michael Mukasey will be tapped by Bush to be the new Attorney General. I don’t know a lot about the man, other than the disappointing fact that he ruled that US citizen Jose Padilla could be held without charges as an “enemy combatant” by President Bush (even tho he did force […]

Same Sex Marriage Now Legal In Polk County, Iowa!

No comment needed except… 1) Wow! and 2) It will be interesting to see how this story will play out alongside the presidential primary election cycle. Surely there will be a hailstorm of commentary on that over the next few days.

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Polk County judge on Thursday struck down Iowa’s law banning gay marriage and ordered the county recorder to permit gay and lesbian couples to marry.

Less than two hours after word of the ruling was publicized, two Des Moines men applied at the Polk County recorder’s office for a marriage license, and for the first time the application was accepted. The process of granting a license to marry in Iowa takes three days.

The Reagan Legacy

One of the big storylines out of the Republican debate was how everyone (and I do mean everyone) was trying to stake a claim to Reagan’s legacy.
Ten Republican presidential candidates wanting to replace
President Bush embraced a more popular president, conservative icon
Ronald Reagan, at every turn in their first debate of the 2008 race.
“Ronald Reagan was […]

Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!

TDS takes a look at the Republican frontrunners for President (McCain, Giuliani, and Romney):

Gotta love Rudy’s classic (er, creepy) cross-dressing bit.

Rudy was a hero to most, But he never meant shit to me you see

In the movies, Guys named Rudy always come from behind to win everyone’s heart and become the hero.

Sometimes it’s the small kid who always wanted to play football for Notre Dame (Rudy).

Sometimes it’s a reindeer with a shiny nose (and his pal the dentist elf) who save Christmas (Rudolph).

And sometimes it’s a mayor who divides […]
