Ohio Right to Life claims GOP Senate played abortion politics in denying Gov. Strickland’s appointments to Ohio Pharmacy Board

One of the odder areas where the Ohio Senate Republicans decided that Governor Strickland’s appointments should be rejected for no other reason than they were Strickland’s appointments was the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.

Although most Statehouse observers understood the political motivations behind Kasich wanting to have the full slate on the Casino Commission, BWC, and the Board of Education, more obscure entities which are viewed as typically apolitical like the Ohio Pharmacy Board struck people as rather odd.

Remember back in May when Republican candidate Steve Stivers attempted to walk back his response on a 9/12 Tea Party group’s questionnaire that asked if Steve Stivers would support repealing the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that allows for the direct election of the Senate by the people? The Ohio House GOP Leader on Kasich’s income tax repeal: “It was never his major proposal.”

Yesterday, GONGWER reported Ohio House Minority Leader Batchelder said this in response to questions about John Kasich’s income tax proposal:

“It was never his major proposal,” Mr. Batchelder said. “It was something he had discussed at one point, and very frankly I think that it’s very clear that with the economy where it is now, that kind of a change cannot be made.”

“When he originally said it he said very carefully that it depends on the economy,” he said.

Here’s Tom Ganley earlier today in Roll Call (“Ganley won’t say whether he thinks Obama is Muslim):

“I don’t have a position on whether he’s a Muslim,” Ganley said Thursday in a telephone interview with Roll Call.

Here’s Tom Ganley just a few hours later in the Plain Dealer:

"For the record, he doesn’t believe the president is Muslim." [says Ganley’s campaign spokeswoman.]

The Ganley campaign claims that Ganley made the statement to Roll Call to indicate the irrelevancy he believes the question has.

Ohio newspaper editor criticizes Mahoning County Democratic Party for having one of “teh gays” as its keynote speaker

Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman David Betras wrote a letter to the editor in today’s Boardman News in response to attacks by the Chairman of the Columbiana County Republican Party (because the Mahoning County Republican Party apparently doesn’t exist.)

Apparently, the editor of the paper felt that Betras was ignoring an “elephant in the room” so he decided to add this “special” comment at the end of Betras’ letter:

Sometimes, when you browse the Google that John Kasich invented while ending special interests influence in Washington forever, you come across a headline like this that if you’re like me gets your imagination running wild with possibilities Like how exactly does one disrupt mating? By patrolling Moth Makeout Point? Calling them randomly?

But despite dreaming up six impossible things by breakfast, I never imagined that Ohio would fight a gypsy moth infestation with a chemical that turns the male moths gay, which sounds like a weird plot line from a political satire [...]

Having solved every other problem in Ohio, the Ohio Senate found itself apparently with time to spare, so they decided that they needed to end the non-existent practice of creating human-animal hybrids.
