Indeed. How on earth Kasich thinks this is a good idea and would not meet extreme resistance is beyond me. If you don't have a well thought out plan ahead of making any kind of announcement, which he didn't (a la teacher merit pay), then people get very nervous and suspicious. These folks depend heavily on that pike and sense that privitzing it will result in the same kind of mess we got with charter schools, prisons and other ventures where the profit motive was introduced. Even if it would raise more money doesn't necessarily mean it will be good for the public. Usually it only benefits a chosen few.

It is small wonder that Kasich’s administration does not conduct the people’s business in the sunlight of day, last week Dick Hodges (the turnpike director who received Kasich’s blessings) held an “open” meeting with the mayors of several NW Ohio towns on the Turnpike and made the additional mistake of allowing the media into the meeting. From the front-page article in Saturday’s “Bryan Times News”, the “director” must have felt like he had just taken a stroll through the lion’s den wearing a pork chop overcoat! There is a reason why Kasich’s people select their audiences – the truth bites!

I remember vaguely some posts regarding the changes the Kasich administration made to the PUCO. I can't remember them, but I think it would be good for you to revisit how he changed the system. It appears PUCO is taking the brunt for what Kasich mandated to be changed. This problem needs to be laid at the feet of the governor to fix since he created it.

Poor Johnny. He's infuriated the working and middle class with SB5, divided his party over its charimanship , and now is alienating small business through utility gouging. Keep digging, Johnny!

In Cleveland? Not true. There are a handful of good-performing charter schools, but it's unlikely they would have enough open slots for all these kids, even if they were located conveniently to the kids from Marcus Garvey, which based on looking at the map I don't think they are. The highest performing schools in Cleveland are public schools like John Hay, the School of the Arts, and the new International Baccalaureate school.

Our education system needs a massive overhaul. This is not it. Charters are a cancer in our cities.

How are the summer payments calculated? July, August, September?

MGA was paid based on the monthly enrollment from the prior ending year, but then in the first "real" count of students for the year the enrollment was nearly half of that total.
And their sponsor, Ashe Culture Center, was getting their 3% sponsor fee ($26,915), but for what? MGA was repeatedly labeled as "unauditable" by the State Auditor of Ohio, and the most recent report dated 1/10/2012 states "the Academy had its funding suspended in April, 2011 by the Ohio Department of Education due to their inability to provide financial records."

This isn't the charter school that you want to be running to defend.

Ah ha! Two of the only accomplishment of her office were the relaxing of liquor laws and cheap bounce houses on state property. NOW we know what she's been spending the past year doing.
