Think John Kasich is happy to have unpopular former Senator/current GOP Attorney General candidate Mike DeWine come to his defense? Me, either.
According to the Youngstown Business Journal, Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray weighed in on John Kasich’s JobsOhio plan and said he had serious concerns about its lack of transparency, particularly when it came to Kasich’s assertion that the non-profit, private corporations bonus compensation system would be made exempt from disclosure:
Kasich’s privatization plan also appears to give “taxpayer-funded bonuses” to the CEOs who would sit on the not-for-profit’s board and its employees, which they would not [...]
Full Story... →The Columbus Dispatch reports with little appreciation of the significance of what they’re reporting:
This prompted American Crossroads to issue an “Are you kidding?” reply. The organization’s law firm said that all photos and video of Portman used in the commercial came from “public domain sources,” such as the Internet and YouTube. “Absolutely no material used in the ad was obtained from the Portman campaign web site or in any other way from the Portman campaign.”
So let me get this straight. Karl Rove’s American Crossroads defense is because they got the materials from Rob Portman Senate campaign’s [...]

AUDIENCE MEMBER: Assuming it’s accurate that Republicans will get the House, how effective will that be in throwing a monkey wrench in the gears of everything Obama does?
JORDAN: If we win, what will we get done? Mostly, I’ll be honest, most of what we can get done is have the big fight, have the big debate, and have the framework for the 2012 election.
From Rob Portman, through the Congressional campaigns, even down to John Kasich the Republicans are completely unable to offer a philosophy of governance. They simply want to win in November [...]
Full Story... →According to Real Clear Politics, the Ohio Democratic Party is going to file a complaint with the FEC alleging that American Crossroads, Karl Rove’s organization which is presently running pro-Rob Portman’s ads right now violated FEC regulations regarding illegal coordination with campaigns in making that ad.
The 527 committee’s ad showcases three photographs that originated from Portman’s campaign Web site and jobs plan document, and FEC rules state that using such photos constitutes an in-kind contribution that exceeds the legal limits.
…
An exception to the regulation allows outside groups to incorporate a candidate’s campaign material “that advocates [...]
Full Story... →Here’s the lede from the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s coverage of today’s bizarre press conference called by the Ohio Republican Party:
Republicans on Tuesday again tried to turn a perceived weak spot of their gubernatorial candidate John Kasich into a moot point.
The idea that the Lehman Brothers attacks have been a dud is pretty much refuted now by the fact that Kasich first ad was not a general introductory ad to voters, or even an attack ad against Strickland, but a misleading downplaying of his role at Lehman Brothers and now an ORP press conference attacking [...]
Full Story... →TPM says the bill is largely the version that passed the Senate.
“Mr. Washington” Rob Portman (actually nickname given by Portman’s political allies in D.C.) announced in April that he opposed the Senate reform bill and, presumably would have joined the GOP caucus in their attempts to filibuster it. Lee Fisher was a vocal supporter of the bill and has been since announcing his candidacy.
The Ohio Democratic Party’s Portman spoof site has a good rundown of Portman’s Wall Street sympathies and pro-Wall Street record. There is a growing awareness that the Republican candidates [...]

Wow. Now if they could just give John Kasich something to stand for.
Apparently, the RGA also single handedly won WWII, ended communism, and brought us Teddy Roosevelt (despite not existing at the time.)
Nothing like showing a bunch of Gulf Coast state governors dependent on the federal government to respond to the oil spill to demonstrate great leadership.
This video is just as vapid as Kasich’s campaign. All unjustified fluff, no substance. Maybe it’ll help them raise some dough? But it’s not going to win [...]
Full Story... →So, here’s all that happened today in the Ohio Governor’s race. I think you need to review the day just to see how bad it, and the rest of the week, was for the non-existent Kasich campaign:
The day started with a new Ohio jobs report that showed a drop in unemployment fueled by gains in manufacturing, construction, and other private sector job growth… putting Ohio ahead of most states in job growth in May, especially per capita. No reported response from the Kasich campaign. The jobs report also showed that Nevada, a non-income tax state now leads [...]
Full Story... →Start listening at the 2:08 mark. Kasich says, again on video, that he favors repealing the income tax (which is still a weird way to talk about… your own proposal).
KASICH: “The fastest growing States in the country, job creating States, are like places like Tennessee, Florida, and Texas and…. and…. Nevadah [sic in original.]
These are the States that John Kasich repeatedly has said he, as Governor, would turn Ohio into to emulate.
Nevada is a no income tax State, and it leads the nation alright. It leads the nation in unemployment, the first time any [...]
Full Story... →While not as great as Ohio’s April jobs report, the report for May is still very good news… unless you’re John Kasich and you based your entire campaign on betting that the economy wouldn’t show signs of improving in Ohio well before the election.
Ohio reduced unemployment by .2% point reducing Ohio’s unemployment rate in May to 10.7%, thus returning Ohio to an unemployment rate it hasn’t seen in six months. For the second month in a row, Ohio was one of the top States in monthly job growth.
Although the reduction in unemployment was partially [...]
Full Story... →We all knew it was just a matter of time before John Kasich abandoned his calls to repeal the Ohio income tax—a proposal he offered solely to fend off a primary challenge by throwing the reddest of red meat the the reddest voters in the State of Ohio.
Today, John Kasich’s campaign spokesman claimed in a published media report that Kasich “hasn’t specifically called for eliminating the income tax and that all budget issues should be considered.”
The problem is that while Kasich has gradually pulled back on his rhetoric about repealing the income tax, until now, his [...]
