Joe C’s Money in Serious Jeopardy

On February 25, 2010 By

Ruh roh. Looks like ACORN may be getting $100 from my wingnut friend Joe C. We made a wager (I don’t forget these things – someone still owes me a bottle of bourbon from the 2008 Presidential…cough…Keeler…cough). The wager came after I made fun of those on the right getting lathered up by an article taking comments out of context to indicate (they thought) that Obama was leaving open the option of not running for re-election.

Joe C was very sure of it and even put $100 on it. Given to our favorite charity. I guess Joe [...]

More Vindication for ACORN

On December 12, 2009 By

Brian previously posted about findings of an independent investigation which cleared ACORN of institutional wrongdoing. Now a judge has ruled that the government’s attempt to cut off federal funding for the organization was unconstitutional.

NEW YORK ? The U.S. government’s move this fall to cut off funding to ACORN was unconstitutional, a federal judge ruled Friday, handing the embattled group a legal victory.

U.S. District Judge Nina Gershon issued the preliminary injunction against the government, saying it’s in the public’s interest for the organization to continue receiving federal funding.

Big win for ACORN and for American democracy [...]

ISSUE 3 BACKERS TARGET OF HAMILTON COUNTY GRAND JURY INVESTIGATION

TruthPAC calls for statewide election board review

(CLEVELAND, OH) – On Monday, when the out-of-state casino developers bankrolling Issue 3 admitted an agent of their campaign committed voter fraud, this was no surprise to Hamilton County law enforcement.

Hamilton County sheriff’s deputies had already dropped grand jury subpoenas on pro-casino forces and seized records from their downtown Cincinnati offices. Reeling, the committee’s chief pointed the finger at one employee of their out-of-state vendor, Fieldworks, Inc.

Suspicious of the developers’ statement, Ohio’s anti-casino campaign called for [...]

Barack decides to fight back on ACORN. Hard

Add the Obama campaign to the growing list of players who think that DOJ’s election-eve investigation into ACORN is a repeat of the politicization of the department that we saw in the US attorney firings scandal.

“With this voter fraud [investigation], we’re seeing an unholy alliance of law enforcement and the ugliest form of partisan politics,” Bob Bauer, an elections lawyer with the Obama camp, said on a conference call with reporters just now. Bauer compared the decision to launch the investigation with the US attorneys scandal, in which several US [...]

The reason it’s a campaign narrative is because it’s true. First there was the gutter level attacks and the unwillingness of McCain and Palin to tamp down the rhetoric about Obama. It ultimately led to rallies turning into lynch mobs complete with death threats, angry rhetoric, hate speech, and even violence. You will remember that the first time someone shouted “TERRORIST” John McCain moved happily along in his attack speech. He did not stop right then and there and repudiate anything. He only did so when the chorus of blogger and journalist go so loud as to demand a response.

Well, had a longer post about this but stupid host errors wiped it out. Best thing I can do now that I wasted time writing that is point you here:

How McCain Will Steal the Election from Obama (Sort Of):

Imagine an election where one of the participants calls foul. Investigations are launched or at least called for. Prosecutors raise the specter of charges, the U.S. attorney and FBI get involved. No voter fraud is ever actually found. But by the time that conclusion is reached, the myth has been solidified both to soothe the loser’s supporters and condemn [...]

New McCain ad out attacking ACORN follows the “risky” scheme, but also adds the former line of attack that says Barack is an uppity negro. You know the one. His rise has been too fast. Who does he think he is? How can he possibly be winning this election over John Sidney McCain p.o.w.?

Scary, right? Here’s where they’re going with this. It’s racial dog whistling at it’s finest. ACORN is an organization that works mostly in poor neighborhoods. 60-70% of the 1.3 million people they’ve registered to vote are black. Do I need to continue?

They do this [...]
