A Florida conservative has registered an official “Tea Party” with the office of the Secretary of State, and is promising to run candidates against Republicans and Democrats in state and national races.
Whoops. GOPers will be in a frantic pile on top of Palin…er…um…Pandora’s box trying to get that pupply closed! Here the best part:
O’Neal compared his party’s role to that of the Conservative Party in New York’s 23rd District.
Conservative Republicans at an “Americans For Prosperity” meeting erupt in applause and jubilation at the news of Chicago – an American city – losing it’s bid for the Summer Olympics in 2016:
First and foremost the irony of a group called Americans for Prosperity cheering the loss of around $23 billion US dollars coming to an American city that could damn well use it. Love it.
Second, don’t ever let ANYONE tell you that these assholes are about being American, protecting America, her Constitution, or any other bill of goods they are selling. These people are psychopaths of the first order who are out to destroy everything that our country should stand for.
Cheering against Obama and Chicago at the expense of the larger good to the country should be evidence enough if you weren’t already convinced. Fucktards.
I hope these images of the New Republicanism is played on a loop for the next month. That is all.
44 years ago today Medicare was signed into law by President Johnson with President Truman looking on. Johnson signed Truman’s original application form as a witness and called him “the real daddy of Medicare”. The irony is that the same old voices that tried to scare America into not making Medicare a reality are doing the same with universal health care. Same. Exact. Playbook.
By all accounts Medicare has been an overwhelmingly popular program with the American people. As Barack Obama hilariously noted this week, many people say to him “I don’t want socialized health care!…but don’t you dare touch my Medicare!”. That sounds like something coming out of Sarah Palin’s Amurica doesn’t it? The American people also want healthcare reform this year. It’s pretty clear.
And so on this 44th anniversary the irony is that the same old conservative scare tactics and fear mongering is hard at work. Ronald Reagan sowed the seeds of his conservative icon status on this fear and loathing. Ronnie lent his voice to the 1961 Operation Coffee Cup Campaign against “Socialized Medicine”:
Ronald Reagan: “[I]f you don’t [stop Medicare] and I don’t do it, one of these days you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it once was like in America when men were free.” [1961]
Are we Socialists yet? Are we telling stories about what it once was like to live in America where men were free? How did Ron Reagan’s arguments work out? What GOP leader is ready to repeal Medicare?
So Happy Anniversary Medicare! We’ll keep the bastards at bay!
The list of governors threatening to decline federal stimulus money last month read like a list of Republicans considering running for president in 2012: Govs. Mark Sanford, Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin led the anti-stimulus charge.
But what began with a bang is ending with something closer to a whimper. All three of those governors have been forced to scale back their expectations, to varying degrees, as the push of conservative philosophy gave way to the pull of political reality.
All three found that praise from the conservative movement in Washington meant nothing to furious state legislators of both parties. And in the end, along with other conservative Republican governors, the three submitted letters in recent days asking to be eligible for federal funds, a spokesman for the White House Office of Management and Budget confirmed.
You’d figure a guy who was lambasting the Democratic President for being anti-Constitution would actually know the document himself. Then again maybe not:
During his much-discussed keynote address at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday, Rush Limbaugh accused Barack Obama of pursuing the “bastardization of the U.S. Constitution.”
It was one of the more politically acidic notes in a speech defined by rambling political assaults. But the conservative talk show host wasn’t exactly standing on firm footing. Just a few moments early he himself had actually — not theoretically — “bastardized” the Constitution by confusing it with the Declaration of Independence.
Wow. I shoulda taken the under! Under a week into the new Presidency of Barack Obama and the right has clearly lost it’s ever-loving mind. I mean they are in full on meltdown “WTF just happened Tuesday” mode! It would be joyous if it weren’t so disturbing at the same time. Glenn Beck making an ass out of himself over the second swearing in with no Bible (despite facts). Rush Limbaugh wanting Obama (and America) to fail. Tom Blumer recycling yet again his old 6 degrees of Barack Hussein Obambi Obama terrorism post.
When you strive for complete irrelevancy this must be what it looks like.
This is going to be fun – in a Sarah Palin kinda way. You want to fear or even get upset at it but all you can muster is laughter. The hysterical kind of laughter that results from someone being so unhinged from reality as to make a mockery of themselves. True and righteous hilarity.
Thankfully we have Jon Stewart, who – again – goes to the point like none other:
…and no, Tom. I won’t apologize for “calling you a motherfucker“, or rather doing so to make a rhetorical point about your use of Hussein as distinct from that of Barack himself. One might think you were intelligent enough to know the difference but maybe not. Your commenting here will be restricted as well (Tom banned me from directly countering his BS at his blog via comments). No comments, trackbacks, or links unless and until you issue a full and open apology to the President of the United States Barack Hussein Obama. An apology long overdue for claiming your President may have ties or is sympathetic to or is supporting TERRORISTS. Your move.
I’m glad Tim is watching. Tom Blumer could be a danger to our country and President Obama by using the type of rhetoric he is using. Hopefully the Secret Service is paying attention to Tom Blumer at Bizzyblog.com too! For the safety of our nation. Making a claim that the sitting President of the United States of America is a terrorist, sympathizes with them, or even supports them is as un-American as it gets. One might even argue treasonous.
I’m a big believer in redemption. I never expected the numbers of GOP defections this cycle though. Seems like everybody and their brother is jumping ship and seeking to get on the O-train. You know what? I welcome them all. It will take coalition of the willing to fix this nasty Bush mess. Scott McClellan, Welcome aboard:
Scott McClellan, the former White House press secretary who sharply criticized President Bush in his memoir last spring, told CNN Thursday he’s voting for Barack Obama.
“From the very beginning I have said I am going to support the candidate that has the best chance for changing the way Washington works and getting things done and I will be voting for Barack Obama and clapping,” McClellan told new CNN Host D.L. Hughley
This news (and some other noted defections on the right) got me thinking. Who will be the first righty blogger in Ohio to get on the O-train? Whoever it is – and if they’ll be in the central Ohio area on election night – drinks are on me. Standing offer. We’ll together toast to new politics and set about the business of bi-partisan blogging to rebuild America.
Who do you think it will be? Vote in our new poll to the right –>
Conservative Republicans always want the government to stay out of business and avoid regulation as long as they are making lots of money. When their greed, however, gets them into a fix, they are the first to cry out for rules and laws and taxpayer money to bail out their businesses. Obviously, Republicans are socialists. The Bush administration has decided to socialize the debt of the big Wall Street Firms. Taxpayers didn’t get to enjoy any of the big money profits on the phony financial instruments like derivatives or bundled sub-prime paper, but we get the privilege of paying for their debt and failures.
Safety net for corporate greed? Yes!
Safety net for average American stung by corporate greed? Not so much.
DENVER (AP) — A nearly 700-page study released Sunday by the Army found that “in the euphoria of early 2003,” U.S.-based commanders prematurely believed their goals in Iraq had been reached and did not send enough troops to handle the occupation.
President George W. Bush’s statement on May 1, 2003, that major combat operations were over reinforced that view, the study said.
Dozens of scientists are demanding that their names be removed from a widely distributed Heartland Institute article entitled 500 Scientists with Documented Doubts of Man-Made Global Warming Scares.
What do they do? Oh, just email 122 of the people on the list – which nets them 40 or so emails from pissed off scientists wondering why they are on the list. Hilarity! Not only is their scientific method off, but their fact checking seems to be a bit askew. Gore should debate this douche. He sounds like he’s pretty bad at the fact game.
