USA Today has a neat interactive graph that let’s you compare Presidential approval ratings. I found this comparison of Barack Obama and Ronald Reagan pretty interesting:
Another worth plugging in to the comparison meter is Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
Those numbers are stunning when you think about it. If John McCain wanted to live up to his sloganeering of “Country First”, he’d be focusing like a laser on the economy and not trying to “turn the page on the economic crisis” in order to talk about people Barack Obama knows who did bad stuff 40 years ago.
The reality of the situation is that “Country First” is just a vapid slogan meant to fool the average voter into thinking it’s true. What John McCain really puts first, however, is his campaign to become President. Country be damned. Especially during an economic crisis.
Tonight’s debate should be interesting. Note to Obama camp: Hammer these Gallup findings like you are trying to beat gray off of concrete. Don’t stop hammering until McCain is a stuttering fool.
50-42. Absolutely obliterating both the RNC and “Palin bump”, Obama is just a point from his biggest lead in Gallup and hits the all important 50% mark.
Damn, I’m good. Obama’s Gallup lead is now statistically significant and I expect the 4 points to hold and possibly even widen in the next week as the economy continues to dominate and Obama and Biden continue to go on the offensive. He could be all the way back to his 8 point post-DNC bump level before long.
Gallup shows Obama picking up more support from Hillary peeps:
PRINCETON, NJ — The Democratic convention appears to have helped solidify support for Barack Obama among former Hillary Clinton supporters, with the percent saying they will vote for Obama in November moving from 70% pre-convention to 81% after the convention, and the percent certain to vote for Obama jumping from 47% to 65%.
3 days straight now. From 6, to 7, to 9. I don’t put alot of stock in the numbers themselves, but the trend cannot be ignored. I’d also point out that McCain has never lead in this particular poll.
