One of the great thing about being more engaged in the blogosphere again is finding good stuff others are doing. Back in the day that was probably the most fun for me. OK, a close second to banging on wingnuts. Hehe.
Some weeks ago I argued that the vituperative criticism of Obama from the right was not, as some suggested, driven by racism but was the result of the right wing being nuts. Not nuts in the sense that they disagree with me, but nuts in that they increasingly subscribe to paranoid fantasies untethered to the real world as anyone else perceives it.
The entire post is worth the read and Pho even sites scientific evidence of the descent into la-la land. His conclusion is something that many of us have been pointing out for quite some time. Namely, when it comes to the GOP and rightwing whackos, “all their base are belong to them”:
The hardcore right described in the report comprise the grassroots foot soldiers of the Republican party. They are the ones who do things like run party moderate out of elections — and the party. As such, the crazies in the Republican party have real influence on one of the only two real parties in our democracy.
Scott references a previous post in which he posits that it’s not racism but severe partisan politics that is driving the right further from reality and affecting the Republican Party in negative ways. I happen to think they are not mutually exclusive. They are both racist and crazy. In fact, you could possibly even argue that deep seated racism – the kind that manifests itself in sock puppets and dead monkey cartoons – is the very thing that is causing them to lose touch with reality.
Did Jesus actually reveal name of the ‘antichrist’?
Viral video makes Hebrew word connection to latest White House occupant
You better believe this is a WND “Exclusive”. I suppose I could report that bats just flew out of my ass and label it a Plunderbund Exclusive.
You simply can’t even IMAGINE this shit if it wasn’t right there in all it’s wingnut glory. Hell, this is making me doubt the nutloonery of the Birthers even! ROFL. Damn…
The movie has a prominent disclaimer stressing the film does not declare “BHO” [Barack Hussein Obama] to be the antichrist, but is merely pointing out the Hebrew words and their “striking” correlations to Jesus’ statement.
What? We’re not calling him the antichrist, but look at these dots we’ve connected that appear to indicate he could be, in fact, the ANTI-CHRIST!
Look out Birthers. The Anti-Christers just upped the ante on crazy!
Buchanan’s quote late in this clip was first reported here at PB. He may have said it before, but as far as I know it was the first time he did. He’s obviously said it since.
Can I just say this? These people are fucking insane! Name a damned darling of the netroots that has won a race. You can count them on less than one hand.
But for some progressive activists, the issue is not simply one of policy, but a concern that Obama’s willingness to snub their political wishes is far more endemic.
Wah, fucking wah. Get over yourselves already. Ideological purity is dead in this day and age and for good reason. Let’s at least GET a damned President in office before we go holding him to some pure standard of netroot progressive purity.
Please.
OK, Tim. Now you can post about this. Let ‘er rip!
Last week in West By God Virginia it was 36 percent. Just 36 percent of Democrats who voted for Hillary Clinton said they would vote for Obama in a general election. This week in Kentucky it was 33 percent.
Two-thirds of Clinton’s supporters there said they would vote Republican or not vote at all rather than for Obama, according to the polls.
Forty-one percent of Clinton supporters said they’d cast their vote for John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, and 23 percent said they would not vote at all.
This being the case all the while most polled say they think Obama will indeed get the nomination.
So I will ask Jill and the rest who are harping on what Obama must do to heal this type of problem (and it IS a problem): How is someone supposed to convince voters to side with him when they vote for his opponent knowing she will not win and claim they will not support him once he wins the nomination as they are predicting? 64% will vote McCain or not vote. That’s a huge problem.
Hillary Clinton’s problem. She has leverage with this bloc of voters. So much so that they support her over the party. They support her over a person with very similar policies and positions – policies and positions that have made them a huge Hillary supporter.
Hillary is a smart woman. She knows the likelihood of her winning butts up against sheer anarchy in the party and the odds of that being allowed to happen are so slim as to not even exist. She is making overtures in her speech tonight of taking this thing to the convention and being unwilling to stop her campaign of party divisiveness. It should be noted that her speech was again devoid of any recognition for Barack’s accomplishments despite his seizing the high ground again with congratulating her on a win.
She must be stopped. Someone needs to tap her on the shoulder and let her know if she succeeds in any plan to seek later redemption by cementing a defeat for Obama this time that there will be a loud cadre of people who may have supported her who will absolutely join in her destruction down the line. There will be no 2012. Face facts.
I’ve seen Hillary say voting for McCain would be a mistake blah blah. That’s not good enough. She needs to either give a speech and step down or give one telling these idiots that not voting or voting McCain would be betraying their votes for her should Obama win. It needs to be forceful and it needs to be NOW!
