I have to agree with Steve Elmendorf, Kerry’s 2004 deputy campaign manager:
Referring to Corsi’s most recent book, Elmendorf said, “It’s on the front page of The New York Times. It’s number one on The New York Times best-seller list. Right now, I would be very aggressive with reporters and factually going through the book and responding and making it clear that this is a bunch of bullsh-t.â€
Don’t NOT, under any circumstances, repeat the mistakes the Kerry camp made in not going after these lies head on. Media Matters has already done a goodjob of debunking many falsehoods and outright smears in the book. The thing is like a compilation of email smears – a greatest hits.
Speaking of Media Matters, their Paul Waldman absolutely destroyed Jerome Corsi on Larry King Live. It was fun to watch someone go after this guy so aggressively. Dude gets destroyed and red in the face when confronted with his complete bullshit:

You’ll also note that the only reason the book is on any “best seller list” is due to bulk sales to wingnut groups. There is no overwhelming grassroots movement that is causing this thing to be popular. That is all a smokescreen. A publishing trick as old as time. Kind of like McCain’s own bundling of large contributions. All a bunch of astroturf.
Note to Obama campaign: Please take not of Elmendorf’s lessons and hit back hard and often on this BS.
“In my opinion, the choice could not be more clear, between one candidate John McCain who’s had experience, been tested in war and tried in peace. Another candidate who has not,†Lieberman said to applause. “Between one candidate, John McCain who’s always put the country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate who has not.â€
Right. Barack Obama has never signed a statement denouncing these United States. John McCain did. Which reminds me. It’s been 43 days now since I called on Senator McCain to release his military records.
The bastardization of John McCain is nearly complete. Here is what he said about the Kerry “Swiftboat Ads” in 2004:
Republican Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, called an ad criticizing John Kerry’s military service “dishonest and dishonorable†and urged the White House on Thursday to condemn it as well.
The White House declined.
“It was the same kind of deal that was pulled on me,†McCain said in an interview with The Associated Press, comparing the anti-Kerry ad to tactics in his bitter Republican primary fight with President Bush.
Now he stands beside a surrogate and allows him to call his opponent un-American, having not put country first. The campaign of John McCain has taken the turn to the dishonorable. The Obama camp should say so.
So John McCain’s new “Truth Squad” has a swiftboater on board. Nice. I wonder why Bud Day doesn’t demand that John McCain sign an SF-180 and release his military records. I’m sure that was his opinion of John Kerry back when his non-swiftboat ass was smearing the presidential candidate all over with his ads.
Also, if the McCain camp is so concerned about someone questioning the military record of a veteran and supposed wartime hero, then why are they openly associating with someone who did this very thing to John Kerry?
Because to Republicans, hypocrisy knows no bounds. That’s why.
