Somtimes the slavish devotion to ideology of the mouth breathing core of Republicanism can reach sublime levels of perfection. In this world, you will find Tom Blumer.
In Blumer’s fevered twitching soulless mind, where somehow Toyota is related to ACORN (?!?!?!), it makes perfect sense to defend Toyota, whose cars have killed drivers all over the country, and whose response to their cars killing people was to stonewall, obfuscate, and refuse to recall their product until a reporter, Brian Ross of ABC News, started making noise.
In the real world, this is how journalism and government is supposed to work – often, the only ally the truth has against a system ignoring truth is a journalist with some guts, shoe leather, and a megaphone, who by use of that megaphone gets government to move. It is to be celebrated.
Unfortunately, this does not blend well with the free market absolutists who have dominated Republicanism for decades. Those dead drivers are simply fuel on the altar of Tom Blumer’s religion of the free market, where every single thing the free market does is an unmitigated good, and anything the free market is forced to do against its will is a blatant evil.
This argument between no government and some government has been settled for centuries, but occasionally gets argued, over and over, by ignorant pigs like Tom Blumer. Thanks to the internet, we get to see the machinations of their empty souls in near real time.
Blumer’s actually providing a public service. Tom Blumer is reminding the world just how dangerous Republicans are when given any power, because what Tom Blumer argues in a dusty corner of the internet’s seething maggot pit of wingnuttia is precisely how Republicans have governed, and would govern again, whenever given the chance. They would throw human lives onto a funeral pyre in service to their ideology, as Tom Blumer has been doing now for weeks.
The Kasich/Taylor rollout trainwreck yesterday may be best remembered for the pathetic response from the teabag blogger wing of Republicanism. When not silent, Ohio bloggers went TO THE MAT for this MOST AWESOME ticket. Intrepid crazed teabagger Tom Blumer was in the third row!
Courtesy of Matt Hurley of Weapons of Mass Discussion, I find myself about 10 feet from the stage where John Kasich will introduce his running mate Mary Taylor. Forget the “people know him” stuff about Hurley. It’s more like “he knows people.”
Access!
There are three rows of chairs (yours truly is in the middle of Row 3 about 10 feet from the lectern (at least until kicked out — which didn’t happen
Also! Yes, Kasich/Taylor is such a juggernaut, it’s nothing short of a miracle that Matt Hurley accomplished the herculean feat of getting Tom Blumer ten feet away. Let the LIVE BLOG begin!
The only problem is we don’t have access to wireless, so this is coming to readers “delay-blogged” by several hours.
Good thing Matt Hurley had all that access and knows people who could put a blogger in a room with no internet.
The Kansas City Star’s Steve Kraske, BizzyBlog’s Tom Blumer, and BizzyBlog Commenter Joe C. are all dumb as boxes of rocks. They read the following quotes and come to the conclusion that Barack Obama is not going to run for a second term in 2012:
“You know, if – if I feel like I’ve made the very best decisions for the American people and three years from now I look at it and, you know, my poll numbers are in the tank and because we’ve gone through these wrenching changes, you know, politically, I’m in a tough spot, I’ll – I’ll feel all right about myself,” Obama told CNN’s Ed Henry.
“I said to myself very early on, even when I started running for office, I don’t want to be making decisions based on getting re-elected, because I think the challenges that America faces right now are so significant,” the president also said.
“Obviously, if I make those decisions and I think that I’m moving the country on the right direction economically, in terms of our security interests, our foreign policy, I’d like to think that those policies are continued because they’re not going to bear fruit just in four years.”
Seriously. Is there any wonder all you get over at Bizzy’s place is disjointed conspiracy theories, outright lies, clever half-truths, and misleading headlines? Does Steve Kraske know he’s stooped to this level? Damn, people. Reading comprehension. Try it on.
The President is clearly saying that he is more concerned about correcting the problems of the country than getting re-elected. He’s not saying he WON’T RUN! That’s the headline, but Kraske came up with “Obama says it: There’s a chance he won’t run in 2012″. You could have guessed that this is now running through Free Republic and other wingnut forums like castor oil through a bad bowel movement.
I’m surprised we didn’t run into any of these three in line at CampStupid.
Listen. I’m going to make this easy for you – and possibly profitable. I’ll bet you a $100 each that Barack Obama is the Democratic Candidate for President in 2012. Take me up on it in the comments.
Consider this my blood curdling scream or whatever. Tom Blumer, our favorite wingnut lunatic faux financial blogger hailing from the southwest corner of the state, has what he thinks is a compelling post up that claims he’s settled once and for all the issue of whether Fox News is fair and balanced or not. He claims they are and he can prove it. Surprise!
Aside: I once called Tom a motherfucker to make a rhetorical point. One he has not been able to defend as yet. He took it personally having thought I was actually calling him names and hasn’t forgiven me, despite my continued reminders that it was a rhetorical point. Tom can be kinda thick that way.
Anyway, so Tom’s big evidence that settles the fair and balanced question? An article in Forbes by S. Robert Lichter. Yes the initial as first name was your first clue. Blumer, surely knowing he’d get called out, even points out that SourceWatch lists Lichter and his organization that conducted the “study” (CMPA) as being far from unbiased. Founded in the mid-80s, CMPA got it’s original seed money from solicitations by Pat Buchanan and Pat Robertson. Since founding, the organization has been very secretive about it’s funding, which should raise several warning flags (as Sarah Palin would call them).
It’s very clear that right-wing foundations and organizations are who are funding CMPA’s work. The list of organizations that CMPA funders fund reads like a who’s who of wingnuttery: AEI, PNAC, Heritage Foundation, Hudson Institute. Politically, attacks on PBS in 1992 and the movie Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2004 should tell you pretty much where they stand. Tom can dismiss using the work of SourceWatch as “paranoia”, but I’d argue the only paranoia is his in hoping readers won’t connect the dots. Normally when there are this many dots to connect Tom is bizzy in the basement trying to figure out who the terrorist is.
Lichter does give fair disclosure in his article that he once worked for Fox News (warning flag!). He doesn’t, oddly, give fair disclosure that he is the freaking President of the organization that did the study! It’s mentioned in his bio at the end of the article, but not disclosed as he pimps the CMPA study. This is something Blumer would jump all over if he had his media accountability hat on. He tends to take that off when he’s going wingnut.
There are a few things wrong with this “study”. First, it only compares ABC, NBC, and CBS evening news program to the first 30 minutes of Fox News’ Special Report. Ever hear of Fox News Special Report with Brett Baier?
Exactly.
To compare a small fraction of the content on the “Fox News Channel” and then claim that “Fox News” is fair and balanced is a complete joke. It ignores the fact that the shows that every HAS heard of like Beck, O’Reilly, and Hannity are what gives the network it’s decidedly conservative bias. How do you ignore 90% of a channels programming in your “analysis” and go on to claim to have generated conclusions about bias? Seriously. It’s laughable on it’s face. Not only that, but it gives Fox huge cover – and as a former employee Lichter may well know this – to toss softballs for 30 minutes a day in order to be consider fair and balanced overall.
It’s a total sham. Add it all up and you get a wingnut funded media monitoring organization providing cover to a wingnut media outlet. And as Eric Boehlert at Media Matters points out, Lichter actually even concedes that Fox News is more biased against Obama in it’s “straight news” coverage. Any thinking person wouldn’t need Media Matters to tell them Fox News is not legit, but they do it any way.
Game. Set. Match.
Newsbusters ahoy! Boo Hoo. Ouch.
PS: Whenever BizzyBlog Boy Wonder Tom Blumer says things like “Using a methodology that would be difficult to refute” you already know how easy it’s going to be to refute.
I thought the H1N1 vaccine was a plot to kill us, so we shouldn’t want it. Or was it a socialist scheme to brainwash our children? No, today it’s a scheme to favor those black kids in public schools over conservative brainwashing….er….I mean those precious home schooled balls of joy who aren’t around other kids and can’t infect huge numbers of children if they get the flu!
I am a patient adversary. As such, I will wait patiently for the opportunity to wage the war of Armageddon against these hypocritical brood of vipers…and oh what a glorious war that will be.
Despite his inability to apologize for intimating the current sitting President of the United States was a terrorist, Tom continues to demand MY apology for creative use of the English language to make a point. Yes. I once and often called Tom Blumer Tom “Motherfucker” Blumer. To make a point that he is still incapable of grasping. It’s called rhetoric. Smart folks get the shit. Ignorant wingnuts apparently do not. (Actually if you Google Tom and motherfucker it’s the first result. Same thing for Tom Blumer motherfucker. No telling who would do that, but we own it here at Plunderbund. Hell, if you Google just Tom Blumer it’s on the first page. Sorry Tom. You should have given in long ago, buddy. All your Google are belong to us!)
So to make sure that my freedoms are kept intact from the likes of these facist wingnut punks I of course screen capped it all for you guys to see. I think I make a good point about Tom’s buddy Rose and the comments regarding Democrat policies doing the opposite of what they say. You decide (and not the fascist known as TMFB, or Tom “Motherfucker” Blumer):
Still awaiting the several public apologies necessary to regain any blogging credibility whatever – other than Freeperville and NewsBusters, of course. They love him there! Tom doesn’t appear to want any. Douchebag.
How do you know someone is reaching to make a political argument? They append “gate” to the end of whatever it is they are trying to gin up. In this case, Tom “BizzyBlog” Blumer (aka Tom “Motherfucker” Blumer), tries to jump on the wingnut bandwagon and pushes “Dealergate”.
You know, Obama is only closing REPUBLICAN car dealerships and sparing the Democrat ones. Conspiracy! Outrage! Gather your tea and meet me at the river!
…lunacy. Nate Silver (someone who actually understands and represents statistics in a manner consistent with the science), clears it up quickly:
A meme that is currently picking up traction in the conservative blogosphere is that the list of dealerships to be shuttered as a result of Chrysler’s bankruptcy contains a disproportionate number donors to Republican candidates. There have been furious efforts to prove this contention by looking up campaign contributor lists at the Huffington Post, Open Secrets, and other places.
There is just one problem with this theory. Nobody has bothered to look up data for the control group: the list of dealerships which aren’t being closed. It turns out that all car dealers are, in fact, overwhelmingly more likely to donate to Republicans than to Democrats — not just those who are having their doors closed.
So a group that is made up of Republicans disproportionately turns out to have a disproportionate number of closings that are “Republican”.
Duh.
There’s some center-right, sensible conservative blogging for you right there!
What have I been thinking having been on blogging hiatus? This shit is way too much fun! Holla!
Can someone point me to the center-right sensible conservatives among the Ohio blogosphere? Need I document the wingnuttery that instead exists? I think not. Pure Orwellian joy. LMAO.
Kinda like a brain fart…for blogs. I was confused while reading the latest post over at Tom Blumer’s place bizzyblog.com. I couldn’t make sense of the post at all. It’s down now and I guess wasn’t meant to be seen. I only wish the contents were more juicy.
It’s clear wingnut bloggers DO NOT want to give Obama any credit. Most of their kudos are centered around the actions of the snipers and the commander on the ground. Nothing wrong with that, but clearly the President was involved and twice gave a specific green light for use of military force to rescue the captain.
So much for just about all the weak and feckless attacks on President Obama’s leadership. We’ve now gone from “he may be a terrorist” to “he just helped kill 3 pirates (terrorists)”. You’ve come a long way baby! I commend all the right wing bloggers who have swallowed hard and given their Commander in Chief the kudos he deserves in this situation. No need for backhanded compliments. I would rather you just said “thank you,” and went on your way.
Update: Quick over/under on how long until we hear wingnut bloggers ask why Obama is not declaring war on Somalia and/or declare war on pirates and nations who harbor or support pirates? I put the line at 3 days and I take the under.
Though most federal grants go to academic researchers, biotech industry backers said the rule changes also could mean a windfall for private companies.
Michael West, chief executive of BioTime Inc., said he expected to see increased demand for the hundreds of stem cell lines sold by his Emeryville-based company.
More importantly to the industry, West said, private investors will be less afraid of putting their money into stem cell startups. Venture capitalists and big pharmaceutical companies in the past have been skittish about investing in stem cell companies out of fear that federal regulations could tighten even further, he said.
“It’s a green light that will go a long way in my experience to people committing capital,” West said. “Not knowing the future was really a major risk factor.”
Oh yeah, Tom “Motherfucker” Blumer and I have a bet. He has recently nearly surrendered in his premature claims to have won it, but we’ll have to wait a few years to find out. I’d say Obama’s recent lifting of the federal funding ban puts me in the drivers seat over the course of the next few years. Alan Trounson seems to think so too:
“I think over the next five to 10 years, the revolution will have happened in stem cell therapeutics,” Alan Trounson, president of California’s stem cell agency.
It must really suck for a “conservative” to be on the other side of the Reagans on this one. Talk about conflicted.
Wow. I shoulda taken the under! Under a week into the new Presidency of Barack Obama and the right has clearly lost it’s ever-loving mind. I mean they are in full on meltdown “WTF just happened Tuesday” mode! It would be joyous if it weren’t so disturbing at the same time. Glenn Beck making an ass out of himself over the second swearing in with no Bible (despite facts). Rush Limbaugh wanting Obama (and America) to fail. Tom Blumer recycling yet again his old 6 degrees of Barack Hussein Obambi Obama terrorism post.
When you strive for complete irrelevancy this must be what it looks like.
This is going to be fun – in a Sarah Palin kinda way. You want to fear or even get upset at it but all you can muster is laughter. The hysterical kind of laughter that results from someone being so unhinged from reality as to make a mockery of themselves. True and righteous hilarity.
Thankfully we have Jon Stewart, who – again – goes to the point like none other:
…and no, Tom. I won’t apologize for “calling you a motherfucker“, or rather doing so to make a rhetorical point about your use of Hussein as distinct from that of Barack himself. One might think you were intelligent enough to know the difference but maybe not. Your commenting here will be restricted as well (Tom banned me from directly countering his BS at his blog via comments). No comments, trackbacks, or links unless and until you issue a full and open apology to the President of the United States Barack Hussein Obama. An apology long overdue for claiming your President may have ties or is sympathetic to or is supporting TERRORISTS. Your move.
I’m glad Tim is watching. Tom Blumer could be a danger to our country and President Obama by using the type of rhetoric he is using. Hopefully the Secret Service is paying attention to Tom Blumer at Bizzyblog.com too! For the safety of our nation. Making a claim that the sitting President of the United States of America is a terrorist, sympathizes with them, or even supports them is as un-American as it gets. One might even argue treasonous.
