Blessed be are the job creators.

Aging, coal-fired CEO Bob Murray of Murray Energy is in the news today with another jaw dropper.  You’ll remember Bob giving a crazy assed rant against President Obama at our own Governor Kasich’s “21st Century Energy & Economic Development Summit”.  The irony of a coal CEO being invited to something with such a title was not lost on us.

You’ll also remember Bob’s company as the place where Josh Mandel faked a southern accent.  This was the same event where some employees alleged they were quietly forced to attend and become a backdrop for the Republican candidates to go on about their support of the good working folk.

Well, he’s back!  This time with a prayer…and layoffs:

Steubenville, OH — NEWS9 got confirmation that Murray Energy Corporation and its subsidiaries will be laying off more than 150 employees.

Murray didn’t leave the unemployed empty handed.  He offered up a prayer:

Dear Lord:

The American people have made their choice. They have decided that America must change its course, away from the principals of our Founders. And, away from the idea of individual freedom and individual responsibility. Away from capitalism, economic responsibility, and personal acceptance.

We are a Country in favor of redistribution, national weakness and reduced standard of living and lower and lower levels of personal freedom.

My regret, Lord, is that our young people, including those in my own family, never will know what America was like or might have been. They will pay the price in their reduced standard of living and, most especially, reduced freedom.

The takers outvoted the producers. In response to this, I have turned to my Bible and in II Peter, Chapter 1, verses 4-9 it says, “To faith we are to add goodness; to goodness, knowledge; to knowledge, self control; to self control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness; to godliness, kindness; to brotherly kindness, love.”

Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corp. for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build. We ask for your guidance in this drastic time with the drastic decisions that will be made to have any hope of our survival as an American business enterprise.

Amen.

I’m really not sure further commentary is necessary.

I’m sure Jesus won’t be very happy that he is laying off 150 people before the holidays.

I hope the DOJ, FBI, NRLB, United States Bureau of Mines, and IRS get out their microscopes and go after Bob Murray. This guy needs to be in prison.

So how many of the guys that got fired failed to show up at Murray’s “optional” Mitt Romney rally?

  • http://plunderbund.com Joseph

What “irony” Eric? Don’t you know we have clean coal now?

  • Amazed

The real question here is how many of the employees being laid off now were hired very recently, during the Romney campaign – just so that Murray could make a show of laying them off, if things did not go his way? Research THAT one for an eye opening. Rumor has it that they are preparing to hire like crazy in the Ohio operations. I smell stink.

Plenty of other energy jobs in Ohio in natural gas.

It looks like most of the layoffs, at least right now, are in Utah – you know, where that nasty “earthquake” killed all his miners. But he’s always up to something. The big news last week was that he opened a huge new operations center here in the Ohio Valley. He is a volatile and unhinged guy. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Carl Rove-like meltdown sometime soon. I can’t wait.

Bad managers always blame someone else.

Eric, you must have left off the last paragraph of Murray’s letter. I pretty sure he said, “And Lord, I am truly sorry for killing those 6 miners and 3 rescue workers at the Crandall Mine. To make amends I’m going to give my vast fortune to the families of those I killed and will immediately begin living my new life of penitence, poverty, and service to the poor, the sick, and the grieving. In the Name of Your Son, Amen.”

You should go back and check.

I was always told that if you ask for forgiveness, it will be granted. Bob’s just covering his bases like any good businessman would. I’m sure God understands good business practices.

Looking at a picture of Murray, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the term “Fat Cat.” The guy obviously hasn’t swung a pick in one of his mines or missed any meals lately! Telling his workers to attend a Romney rally (and consequently miss a day’s pay) or they’d get fired SHOULD BE ILLEGAL! Murray and his ilk have no shame, and are a clear example of the flaws of unregulated Capitalism. Didn’t America learn anything from the Pullman strike and the Haymarket riot in the 1880s about corperate paternalism? Just because somebody works for you doesn’t give you the right to tell them how to vote or how to live their lives when they’re NOT on the clock!
Sanctimonious prayer notwithstanding, when Murray faces St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, it’d be appropriate if St. Peter handed him a shovel and told him to start digging for a millenium or so to atone for his SINS!

Even the Pharisees of old must be rolling their eyes at this “businessman.”

Add another loony tune to the face of the republican party. It’s not only demographic change that’s killing them, it’s this growing menagerie of imbeciles, cretins and misfits. Now when you here the word republican the mouth breather Mitch McConnel is the first thing that comes to mind, or it may be Michelle Bachman or Todd Aiken or Rush Limbaugh. They have a huge image problem that has grown over the years and will take them a long time, if ever, to fix.

Beautiful! Throw old Mitt in there too. This raper of american business could smile as he was booting people out the door as in build a stage so I can get up there on a pedistal and fire ya.
